The soaring eagle does not belong to the sky it crosses, nor to the ground it left behind—it belongs only to the quiet expanse in between..

Where the only voice left to listen to, is the one carrying you forward.

Central United Methodist Church,

Officially opened and was dedicated on November 17, 1867.

Key milestones in the building's timeline include:

July 3, 1866: The cornerstone for the sanctuary was laid.

November 17, 1867: The completed Gothic Revival church was formally dedicated.

While the present stone building opened in 1867, the congregation itself is one of Detroit's oldest, dating back to 1810.

The sky didn’t just open up over Texas—it made a statement.

Heavy cloud cover, golden hour light, and crepuscular rays carving through the atmosphere right above the highway.

There’s a quiet gravity to moments like this, where everyday infrastructure sits right beneath something entirely unscripted.

Out here, you just pull over, frame the horizon, and let the light do the talking.

This is a late-1930s International Harvester D-Series pickup truck (most likely a 1937–1939 D-2 half-ton model).

Steel rusts, wood rots, and the fields reclaim what was ours.

But standing in front of this late-30s International, you don't just see abandoned iron—you feel the weight of every mile it carried before the engine finally went quiet.

Time doesn't erase purpose; it just shifts the frame.

Absolutely my favorite mural I discovered in Detroit.

Urban geometry meets organic form.

What makes this piece work isn't just the pop of color—it’s how the artist integrated the heavy brickwork and asymmetric window cutouts into the framing of the composition.

The matte black backdrop swallows the light, making the cold blue-green fronds and warm pinks project straight off the wall.

Detroit's street art scene excels at taking rigid, forgotten facades and turning them into dynamic visual studies.

There is something about watching the sky burn down into the quiet dark that makes every noisy thought completely still.

We spend so much of our days moving, planning, and looking ahead, but a horizon like this doesn't ask anything from you—it just demands that you stop and pay attention.

The bright gold gives way to deep violet, and for a few unrepeatable minutes, the everyday world below becomes nothing more than a silhouette against something vast and untamed.

Nature doesn't rush its transitions, and maybe there's a lesson in that for the rest of us.

Some days, the world feels completely stripped of color—quiet, heavy, and muted.

But life doesn't ask permission to bloom.

It bursts through the shadows, defiant and unapologetic, carrying its own warmth when everything around it feels cold.

In a sea of grayscale, choose to be the flame.

A single hibiscus bloom lasts only a day, yet it carries enough brilliant energy to command the entire horizon.

There is a quiet beauty in giving everything you have to a single moment, standing bold and unfiltered before fading away.

Don't dim your light just because the world around you is quiet.

These beautiful works of art were created by Jim Whiffen of closelookdesigns

I've had these since 2012-2014, can't remember the exact year.

I was absolutely thrilled when I was gifted these.

They have traveled all across Canada and the US with me.

These artworks mean so much to me.

They make me think of my home and native land and they make me think of my home here in America as well.

I finally decided I had enough of looking at blank walls in my new apartment.

Over the last couple weeks, I've been filling the walls of my apartment with artwork that I already have, and adding additional new artwork as well.

There’s a distinct stillness to art that feels aquatic.

Looking at this piece, you can almost sense a shift in temperature—the heavy, cold navy anchored at the bottom gradually giving way to soft sage greens and pale light floating near the surface.

Abstract art doesn't demand that you name what you're seeing; it asks you to sit with how it feels.

To me, it reads like quiet reflections on a murky waterway at twilight, where rigid structure dissolves entirely into rhythm, color, and mood.

What do your eyes settle on first when a piece drops all literal form?

I'm thrilled to add this to my home.

My first thought, I was immediately drawn to it.

I guess you really can't take the Nova Scotia out of me.

The ocean calls my name.

The noise here in November is deafening, but August concrete has a different kind of volume.

Standing in an empty lot facing millions of pounds of suspended brick and steel, you realize how much weight a place holds even when nobody is watching.
