Today's bird is the common yellowthroat. This image was captured during an early morning fall walk in Battery Provincial Park, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Some patience was required as this bird flitted quickly from perch to perch, looking for insects to eat.โ It was more easily heard than seen! ๐โ
This North American warbler is most commonly found living in wet areas with dense, tangled vegetation. The birds winter in the Southern US, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.โ
Common yellowthroats are small, weighing only about 10 g. They are very vocal and like to forage in low brush, picking insects and larvae from foliage, bark, and branches.โ
