I took some photos of Covenhoven during the sound check yesterday at Found Books in Cochrane. The candle-light ambiance in Found Books creates a unique setting for entertainers such as the Colorado singer/songwriter whose music and lyrics command contemplation. Singer/songwriter Ben Pisano usually accompanies Covenhoven when he tours throughout the US and Canada. I was impressed with this pair of wandering troubadours. They are very down to earth and extremely nice people. Gotta' love that!

I had the wonderful pleasure of talking, interviewing and taking photos of Covenhoven, who is in town playing at Found Books and Shop this evening at 7:30pm. The Colorado singer/songwriter has created six full length albums, and has reached over 14 million people who have seen his concerts and on television.

I had the pleasure of listening to the music while watching Orianna Millwater paint, perhaps being inspired by Samantha Chase's golden voice, or the beautiful guitar work by Mark Bretherton at the Common Works. Joining them was long-time musical partner with Bretherton, Art Norris, and the singer Glynn Owen. The Common Works has live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 4-6pm, along with live artists creating on canvas.

Bolivian native Marcelo Soria has been playing the beautiful, melodic music in downtown Cochrane throughout the summer, when the weather has co-operated. He is a multi-instrumentalist which includes the pan flute, guitar and several other instruments from the Andes.

When I left the Bow Valley Grizzlies/Saints game after the first half yesterday the score was 45-5 in favour of the Grizzlies. I am not sure what the final was but that is irrelevant unless the Saints rallied and came back from that huge deficit, and it was great to see some of the veterans on the pitch.

Lots of thrills and spills at the Calgary First Responders Rodeo this afternoon in Cochrane. It was another great rodeo. I actually covered the very first Calgary Police Rodeo in 1983, which was also the first Police Rodeo in Canada. It has grown leaps since then, and best of all the proceeds are donated to several charities, but the main charity is the Missing Children Society of Canada.
The rodeo features several events that other rodeos don't host such as the Wild Horse Race, Wild Cow Milking, and the ever dangerous Bull Poker.

The Ba-Bas hosted the Canucks last night and when I left the score was 12-7 in favour of the Canucks. Coach Hawes informs me the final score was 38-14 for the Canucks victory. The Ba-Bas are comprised of players who compete for the rural teams in the Calgary Rugby Association. Rural teams such as Banff, Bow Valley, Lethbridge, Okotoks and Red Deer.

Shot the first of the Dog Pound Stampede yesterday. It was their 120th year which is the second longest continuing rodeo in Canada, and the longest running rodeo in Alberta. I only shot the first half of the rodeo then left.
Lots of wild rides and a few wrecks. Local trick rider Shelby Cummings started the rodeo off. Dallas Albertson had a rough ride when the horse reared up and fell back on him. Hopefully he is alright.
Cochrane's Nolan Bryska (red) scored 66.5 in the Junior Steer Riding and then discovered the dismount is sometimes harder than the ride as he was either nearly stepped on or did receive the hooves of the steer.

Long-time rivals, the Grizzlies versus the Canucks, squared off last night at the Mitford Pitch, and the Canucks were the victors. This rivalry goes all the way back to the Coyotes' team, before the Grizzlies formed a team, and the two teams have competed in several championship games against each other since then.
There were some highlights for the Grizzlies as they did score several tries in the game and they made some huge goal-line stances, but inevitably they couldn't stop the onslaught of the Canucks' offence.
The one thing that was extremely noticeable was the Canucks had a lot more fans watching the game than the home-team Grizzlies had. Grizzlies next home game is July 17.
