I stumbled across this photo in my collection which made me chuckle. I have met, or shot, covered, every Prime Minister in Canada since John Diefenbaker, who was handing out Diefenbaker Bucks at the Kingston Shopping Center, with the exception of our guy. I have never been a person who wanted my picture taken with celebrities. Ask my mother who tried to take a picture of me with P.E. Trudeau. Didn't happen!
Anyhow, I was driving downtown Cochrane many years ago and I saw all these shiny, black, SUV's and Town Cars, which is a dead giveaway that a political leader is present.
I noticed there was a lineup at Cochrane's main tourist destination, MacKay's Ice Cream, which on a weekend in the summer there is always a lineup at MacKay's due to its popularity. Sure enough, Prime Minister Harper is standing in line, waiting to get in the store. I realized that him standing outside in the hot sun was a public relations move, however, I have seen other PM's walk ahead of the line and enter without waiting their turns. Mr. Harper stood outside, fielded questions, had his pictures taken with people, for about 20 minutes.
I was the only one there taking pictures other than the PM's photographer. He finally entered the store and his crew had asked three times to pose with Mr. Harper before I reluctantly agreed. I never did send away for that image, which was offered to me. Nothing against Mr. Harper, it is just the way that I am. I don't really like having my photo taken, especially with celebrities whom I don't place on a pedestal.

Autumn, nature's transformation. For the past week I have been touring around Cochrane, taking photos, mainly using my phone. I love this time of year as everything turns to yellow and gold, with a smattering of red. The decaying foliage returns to the earth, and it leaves a sweet redolence that permeates the senses.
I started this gallery and I will add images every day until the trees undress. Most of the images have been recorded with my phone, although I have included a few photos that I shot on film, such as the geese/ducks, combine photo from October, 1998.
I have never seen or experienced avian flying in front of a combine or a tractor since, and I have spent years documenting agriculture. I believe that was a once in a lifetime experience, and I actually waited a day before I transmitted it, believing it would be published on the first edition of the National Post. The Post ran it inside and used a photo of John Glenn on their front page, while the Globe and Mail, The Calgary Herald ran it on their front pages, and numerous international newspapers published the photo as well.
Regardless, I will add more photos every day.

It was another one sided affair unfortunately for the Bow Valley Bobcats as they hosted the Croxford Cavaliers from Airdrie. When I left at half-time, the score was 31-0 for the Cavaliers. There were a few highlights in the first half, for BV, such as a wonderful pass and catch from BV's qb to his receiver. Bow Valley's next game is in Airdrie, October 10th.

Wonderful art display at Anything Grows. Over 80 pieces adorn the store and greenhouse. Artist Sharon Massen is painting a piece today and the art display will be available tomorrow, Sunday, from 9:30-4pm at Anything Grows.

One of the reasons I enjoy walking around our growing town is I get to see and experience life that I wouldn't normally get to experience if I was in a vehicle. I was walking over to a friend's house last night to watch football when I ran across this young buck grazing on a hill, watching pedestrians stroll by while keeping an eye on the valley below.

Wasn't that a great party! The Cochrane Classic Car Show and Shine held its 14th annual event today, and 1000s of people turned out for the great event. Over 250 vehicles, and the organizers had to turn away 50 vehicles. Vehicles of all shapes and sizes: trucks, vans, cars and race cars, old and new.
I was quite intrigued by watching children view a beautiful orange Mustang, but they were more interested with the A&W tray sitting on the passenger window. Unless this younger generation has watched the Flintstones when Fred ordered a Brontosaurus burger and the tray was set on the auto's window, they probably don't have a clue that A&W used to deliver food to the vehicles.

Crosstown rivals Bow Valley hosted the Cochrane Cobras last night and the end result was the Cochrane Cobras hammered the Bobcats. I departed with three minutes left in the game and the score was 52-7, so I assume Cochrane won the game.
The Cobras scored two touchdowns due to onside kicks which the Cobras recovered and quickly scored both tds.
Tanner Matthews (1) and Tyler Zarowny (22) each had three touchdowns apiece. Tage Nichol (6) made some great pass receptions from qb Joe Stevenson (7) including a td pass and catch by the two players.
The Cobras defense smothered the Bobcats' running game, and unfortunately for Bow Valley one of their running backs was hurt early in the first quarter.
Bow Valley had more success with their passing game. BV's quarterback throws a good ball and is quite accurate with his passes.
Cochrane is now 3-0 and sits at the top of the league while Bow Valley is 1-2 on the season.

The livestock was rank on the final day of 60th annual Cochrane Lions Rodeo. The livestock, horses, steers, and bulls probably didn't like the wind and the cold, but the rain held off. Some of the riders were bucked off, and some of the riders found out getting off an animal can be worse than the ride itself. Horses try to avoid people, cows and steers will run over anything that is in its way, whereas the bulls will go after anything and anyone, and some of them go out of their way to seek a target. Well done Cochrane Lions, and all the volunteers. It was another great rodeo weekend!

Wasn't that a great party. Everyone loves a parade, and this year's version of the Cochrane Labour Day Parade was exceptional. Some wonderful costumes, floats and of course horses. Congrats to the Cochrane Rotary Club for being the parade marshals and congrats to all the volunteers and participants that made this occur again, year after year. Accolades to Marina Chabbert who has been organizing the parade, along with the parade committee, for as long as I have known her, which, I cannot recall how many years that has been, but a long time! I have posted 28 images, sorry, as I believe quality is much better than quantity, but there were so many images to be made, and I have several that aren't being published.

Another great crowd on hand for the 60th annual Cochrane Lions Rodeo this afternoon, regardless of the cool, rainy weather. Lots of great spills and thrills and entertainment.
DeWinton's Lily Pollard had a rough time during the Junior Steer Riding, as well as the kids getting dragged during the Wild Pony Racing. Three time World Champion Hoop Dancer Quentin Pipestem performs a hoop dance.
Cowboy of the Year, Jim Turner (middle, purple shirt), a farmer, a rancher and long time rodeo judge definitely deserves the award.
Tamsin Bieber was also honoured as her art piece was selected for the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Poster.
Congrats to both. Trick rider Bella Da Costa performs a su***de drag while Noemy Coeuroly rides two horses Roman Style.
The Bow Valley Grizzlies' team members compete in the Wild Cow Race.
More action tomorrow, on Labour Day.
