Hey everyone! I’m really excited to share that I’ll be speaking at The Camera Store here in Calgary on Thursday, September 10th.
I’ll be pulling back the curtain on the reality of wildlife filmmaking—the crazy logistics, harsh environments, gear failures, and what happens when nature refuses to follow the script. I'll be sharing some behind-the-scenes footage and honest stories about the pivots, failures, and wins in the field.
It’s an in-person evening event, and I’d love to see some familiar faces there!

As it's shark week here is the first of a few sharky captures I have to share. I had the idea to capture an image like this while in French Polynesia a few weeks ago. From a technical perspective this is A tricky shot to say the least! My model (my wife) who was paid in Poke bowls and coconut milk got up with me every morning before sunrise and paddled out in a kayak to this location where sharks and rays frequent in shallow water.

For this image to work I needed calm weather (it was blowing 30+ km's per hr) a nice sunrise, the boat to stay pointed in the right direction, a shark to some by in the right location facing the right direction and my model to be doing something interesting. I was standing in chest deep water while holding a 60 pound camera setup half in the water with a small spray bottle with soapy water in the other hand spraying the lens which gave me 2 seconds of no drops on the lens to wreck the photo from the waves. I had to keep an eye on the sharks, the clouds, the boat, the waves and the water on the lens.

I love the natural framing in this with the wave. I have hundreds of other photos that were nice but this stood out with all the elements coming together with the shark, the sun briefly popping out from the clouds, the shape of the wave for natural framing, my wife looking at the shark and no residual water, soap or droplets on the lens. Everything in focus. Definitely a one on a million in the weather we had and took several days of attempts to get this.

Happy 100th Birthday to the legendary Sir David Attenborough! Thank you for sharing the wonders of the natural world and inspiring generations to be curious and in awe of our planet and the creatures that live on it! I am ever grateful to have had the opportunity to shoot alongside some immensely talented crews for several of his series over the years.

Here are some images taken on those shoots.
