Happy World Photography Day 💟
Photography has been part of my life for so long that sometimes I forget just how far back it goes.
My mom did photography, and when I was around 11, she was the one who taught me how to use a camera.
And apparently that was all it took haha!
I became completely obsessed. Growing up on a farm meant I had an endless supply of subjects, so pretty much every animal we owned became an unwilling model at some point.
As I got older, I was always looking for an excuse to take photos; baseball, hockey, volleyball, the occasional grad session… basically anything that let me stay safely behind the camera without having to pose someone 😂
People were the one thing that terrified me.
I was SO intimidated by posing and directing someone, and being an introvert definitely wasn’t helping. If you had told teenage me that one day I would spend my weekends directing entire wedding parties, I genuinely would not have believed you.
Then in 2021, a family friend trusted me to photograph their wedding.
And something just clicked.
I loved the emotion. The unpredictability. The chaos. The tiny moments happening in every direction. And I loved knowing that the photographs I was taking would eventually become pieces of someone’s family history.
After that, I couldn’t look back.
Now, somehow 2026 is my fourth official wedding season.
I spent so many years having absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I never had the dream career picked out or some perfectly mapped-out plan for my future.
But I have it now.
This is it.
This is what I want to do.
And it’s pretty wild to think that it all started with my mom teaching an 11-year-old girl how to use a camera and letting her loose on a farm full of animals.
Turns out, I’d been finding my way here all along 🫶🏻📸
