Here’s a little preview of the **beautiful and incredibly talented Ash** from a recent shoot as we start creating the mood for our next portrait workshop.

And yes… **we’ll be working with Ashleigh Rafferty again** for this one. 🖤

Think **raw, cinematic, gritty and a little dystopian** — playing with texture, light, shadow, salt and stone to create portraits that feel like they belong in another world.

It’s always a privilege to be invited into someone’s photography journey.

Recently, I was asked by up-and-coming photographer Melissa to mentor her during this beautiful pregnancy session with her sister and brother-in-law. Melissa Tate has been attending my portrait workshops and decided to invest in a private mentoring session to further develop her skills.

While mentoring throughout the shoot, I also captured these images. It was wonderful to watch Mel grow in confidence as she put into practice what she has been learning. I’ve had a sneak peek at her photographs and I’m incredibly proud of what she achieved.

One of the most rewarding parts of my career is helping photographers develop their skills, find their creative voice and gain the confidence to create meaningful images of their own.

Congratulations Mel — you’ve come such a long way, and I can’t wait to see where your photography journey takes you next. 🤍

**More Than Skin Deep**

They wear stories on their skin, but the ink is only part of who they are.

Behind every tattoo is a life lived, lessons learned, battles fought and strength earned. This series isn't about the artwork they carry—it's about the women beneath it.

Each portrait represents a different journey, a different story and a different voice. Together, they remind us that our deepest stories are rarely the ones seen at first glance.

A powerful reminder to never judge a book by its cover. The stories that shape us are often far deeper than what we see on the surface.

I'm looking to continue this project and photograph more heavily tattooed women willing to share their story. If this is something you'd be interested in being part of, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.

While going through my archives, I came across this video and photo essay I created on former Olympian Jarrad Poort as he prepared for what would become the final Olympic chapter of his career.

It's one of the first videos I ever put together, so the editing might not be my best work, but the story remains just as powerful. Behind every Olympic athlete is years of sacrifice, dedication and perseverance—something Jarrad embodied throughout his career.

Looking back, it was a privilege to document a small part of his journey and capture the determination, focus and commitment required to compete at the highest level. Sometimes it's not about perfect editing; it's about preserving moments and stories that deserve to be remembered.

With just over an hour to capture the entire campaign, the brief was simple — get Jake Standen in action.

Working at CrossFit CQ for Drinkflck, the goal was to create a collection of strong, authentic images that showcased Jake's athleticism, determination and the intensity of his training environment.

When time is limited, experience counts. Every frame needs to work, every setup needs a purpose, and there isn't time to overcomplicate things. We focused on movement, strength and real moments, creating images that tell the story of both the athlete and the brand.

A huge thanks to Jake Standen and the team at CrossFit CQ for making it all come together. I'm stoked with what we achieved in such a short time and looking forward to seeing the campaign roll out.

What a fantastic evening at tonight's Retro Glam Photography Workshop with Ashleigh Rafferty MadDog Mick

Together we created a series of images inspired by glamour, fashion and storytelling, using light, posing and creativity to bring each scene to life. It was wonderful to watch everyone's confidence grow throughout the shoot as they experimented with different ideas and techniques.

I was incredibly proud of all the photographers. Not only did they create some beautiful images, but they also showed great initiative by taking turns directing the model, suggesting poses and contributing their own creative ideas. That's where real growth happens — when you step outside your comfort zone and start telling your own stories through photography.

Most importantly, we had a lot of fun. There was plenty of laughter, learning and support throughout the evening, and every photographer left with new skills, greater confidence and images they can be proud of.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and embraced the challenge. I can't wait to see the final edits and watch your photography continue to grow.

📸✨ Well done, everyone! ###

Yesterday I worked a casual shift with WIN News covering a rowing event, and as a former still water and surf boat rower myself, it was awesome to cover.

Since leaving the newspaper industry after more than 30 years as a photojournalist, I’ve enjoyed taking on the occasional shift with WIN and learning a different side of visual storytelling through video. Every assignment is different, and I genuinely enjoy the challenge.

That said, photography remains my true passion. Whether I’m photographing people, telling community stories, teaching workshops, or creating portraits, it’s still the medium that excites me the most. Being able to connect with people and capture moments that matter is something I’ll never tire of.

Yesterday was a wonderful mix of old memories, new experiences, and a reminder of how fortunate I am to still be doing what I love.

Calling all photography enthusiasts! Only 3 spots remain in my Retro Glam Photography Workshop on 18 July.

Join me on Saturday, 18 July for a hands-on Retro Glam Photography Workshop, featuring a classic 1970 Mustang MadDog Mick, a professional model Ashleigh Rafferty, and the chance to create cinematic, vintage-inspired portraits.

Whether you're a beginner wanting to learn more about your camera or a more experienced photographer looking to add something different to your portfolio, this workshop is designed to be creative, practical, and fun.

With small participant numbers, everyone gets plenty of shooting time and the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

If you'd like to secure one of the remaining spots, send me a message. Once the workshop is full, bookings will close.
