Hello everyone 💛
Just a little note to let you know that I'm okay. I've been rather quiet here lately because I'm still recovering and giving myself the time I need to get back on my feet.

Things are moving a little more slowly than I'd like — patience has never been one of my more impressive talents 😂 — but I'm getting there.

My art and all the things I want to create are still very much here. For the moment I'm simply taking things as they come and allowing myself some recovery time.

Thank you to those of you who have thought of me, checked in, or simply stayed quietly connected to my page. It means more than you probably realise.
I'll be back properly when I'm ready. 💛

A little thank you from me ❤️

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sent me messages, comments and beautiful wishes for my recovery after surgery.

I may not have managed to reply to every single person, but please know that I have read your words and appreciated every one of them.

At a time when I’m having to slow down, rest and let my body do the healing, your kindness has meant more to me than you probably realise.

Sometimes it’s the simplest thing — knowing that somebody thought of you and took a moment to reach out — that can make a day feel a little brighter.

I’m home, taking things gently and getting stronger one day at a time.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Arohanui. ❤️

Thank you all so very much, with much love.

I've been a little quiet here lately.

Life took an unexpected turn and I ended up in hospital needing emergency surgery to remove a badly infected gallbladder.

It all happened rather quickly, and I've spent the days since simply resting and allowing my body to recover.

I'm home now, taking things slowly and appreciating the small things — a warm bed, music playing, and the gradual return of my energy.

Sometimes life simply asks us to stop for a while.

I'll be back here when I'm ready.

Finding my palette.

Over the last few days I've been searching for the colours that feel like home.

This morning, sitting quietly outside, I realised they were already here.

The luminous yellow-greens glowing in the sunlight... the deep pounamu greens in the shadows... the warm bark and soft earth tones.

As someone born in Aotearoa New Zealand with Māori ancestry, these colours immediately remind me of kowhai pounamo—one of the beautiful varieties of pounamu (greenstone).

They also remind me of the New Zealand sea, where the water often carries those same translucent green tones.

These photographs aren't just snapshots of leaves.

They're becoming the colour palette for a new series of abstract paintings.

Sometimes the colours we're searching for have been waiting just outside the door all along.

Hands of Equal Fire:

I've always believed that difference should never become a measure of worth.

This artwork is my reminder that beneath every culture, every history and every pair of hands, the same fire burns.

What independence means to a woman:

Full independence is not something every woman reaches easily.

For many, it is hard won—built slowly through years of responsibility, disappointment, endurance, difficult choices and learning to stand alone.

So when a woman finally attains genuine independence, she is unlikely to exchange it for anything that feels like obligation, control or the loss of herself.

This does not mean she is incapable of love, companionship or commitment. It means that anything entering her life must respect the freedom she fought so hard to create.

It must add to her life, not consume it. It must allow her to remain fully herself.
Often, by the time she reaches this place, she has also left much of materialism behind.

She no longer needs to surround herself with excess to prove that her life has value.

She keeps what is useful, meaningful and beautiful to her, and lets the rest fall away.
She has also learned the importance of healthy boundaries.

They are no longer something she apologises for.

She knows when to say yes, when to say no, and when to quietly walk away.

She understands that protecting her peace is necessary.

The people who truly care for her will respect those boundaries rather than challenge them.

A woman who has finally gained her independence understands its value because she knows what it cost her.

She will protect it fiercely because she has learned that peace, autonomy, simplicity and ownership of her own life are not negotiable.

Once she has them, she will not surrender them.

Looking out of my bedroom window first thing in the morning, I see the gleaming metal and familiar shapes of neighbouring caravans.

I found myself living in a home park later in life, but that does not mean I have stopped trying to move my life forward.

At the moment, I am renovating this place cosmetically — changing what I can, making it lighter, calmer and more comfortable to live in while I work towards whatever comes next.

I am still creating. Still planning. Still looking ahead.

Sometimes a life can appear very small from the outside, while inside it is still stretching towards something better.

I have not given up. I am simply making this place kinder to live in while I remain in between places.

Between Two Worlds:

This small painting comes from a place in me that has often felt caught between belonging and displacement.

The waka represents journey, ancestry and the search for home.

The pounamu toki holds strength, memory and connection to my Māori heritage.

The mist around them speaks of distance and uncertainty — the feeling of carrying culture within me, yet not always feeling fully anchored in either world.

For me, this piece is about identity, inheritance and the quiet space between where we come from and where we find ourselves.

It is a small painting, but it carries a much larger story.
