The new store at I shot back in September.

Store shoots are always scheduled by the client, on the day of opening, must be wrapped up before 9am, and 10 photos at least are always to be delivered on the same day of the shoot.

10 photos take between 4-6 hours to edit in complete, so these are always big ‘fast paced’ days when you add in travel, to get this done in time … and I love it.

Here’s the stats on professional vs non-professional airbnb photography

The first thing a potential guest will see on your listing is your photos. They can be the very reason why your listing caught the user’s eye and lead to a booking. It only stands to reason that good photography is a must on Airbnb.

Airbnb was working on getting more listings on board. The team explored why certain listings quickly converted while others didn’t
And they found the reason was obvious. Even the substandard houses with the best photos were quickly let out, while the genuinely good ones with not-so-good photos didn’t get enough attention and consequently garnered less rent. The initial tests showed bookings increased by 2-3 times through professional photos.

How important is good photography? Airbnb did an internal study on the subject and found that listings that are presented with professional-level photographs earn 40% more revenue than those without.

Keeping your photos in good quality and updated is a must as it directly brings in revenue. Updated photos also set the expectations of the guests and meeting those expectations is the best way to avoid low ratings.

Sunrise to sunset shoot for from 2023.

Jacinta puts so much into every little detail of her projects and into our shoots, but mostly has it ‘done’ before I arrive, which allows me to capture what is getting the best light straight away and not have to wait for her to style it. Her projects are big these days, and there’s a lot to capture. So having it as ready as possible makes it so much easier for me to quickly capture anything that has the lighting hitting it just right.

A favourite shoot week of 2023 in Perth … and photos I’ve never shared as posts.

A couple of Composition Tools for you today.

1/ the height of your camera should be about 20 cm higher then the main piece of furniture in the room.

2/ having something blurred in the foreground will add to the story telling of the photograph

3/ keep your lines straight and parallel

4/ for an editorial look, line your camera up parallel to the opposite wall, rather then aim to a corner of the room (so as to not look to real estate)

I love getting to do exteriors like this 🙌🏼 and have been asked more and more in the last 2 years by my clients.

Exteriors don’t ever take long to capture, but it is all down to timing, getting that sunlight just right (and only on an optional weather day) … positioning yourself in weird situations with traffic is a given, and then the job of ‘clean up’ in photoshop.

If you are starting out as a photographer, walking the streets and capturing exteriors is the best practise for learning how different light effects your photographs and learning composition for architecture and interior photography

Adding human figures such an important part to these spaces to get a good idea of how they are used and the scale.

When you are starting out as a photographer, don’t be overwhelmed by thinking you need to know the exact compositions and where you are going to position everyone for every shot … give your self time on the shoot, communicate with your client what a realistic time frame would be to capture the space, leaving enough time for adding in people … I believe it ads about 10-15 mins on to every photo … don’t be afraid to experiment and take your time to get each shot right.

stunning project captured this year. A huge day for this talented team and I, ready-ing every room as we went, 16 rooms in total, being styled on the day … we are so thrilled with how these photos turned out.

The biggest challenge for this shoot was deciding whether to filter the sunlight with the curtains so it wasn’t as harsh, and/or competing with the glare of the ocean … or having the incredible views from this penthouse in view 🙌🏼 … we did a mixture so that the interiors could really shine, and show off … but also highlight the incredible location for this project.

Photography work for the ever so talented of his Broadbeach Waters project with and .

Styling for interior photography is constantly changing, and you need to stay on top of the trends, the styling can make or break your photo shoot. Here some trends we’ve noticed are in, and some that are definitely out.

Styling props that are in:
- fennel
- pomegranate
- nectarines/peaches
- brown pears (not green)
- cheese, but it needs to be BIG
- towels that are gathered (not neatly folded)
- sticks/twigs in a larger scale (less greenery)
- trees in pots inside
- less cushions (on sofas and on beds, often only one)
- large bed quilts that cover the pillows
- wave patterns
- mixed metals
- organic, hand-made ceramics
- functional AND beautiful accessories
- sculptural vases
- glasses of water, using ice to create condensation

Styling props that are out:
- candles
- pineapples
- anything with checks
- lots of cushions
- boucle
- coffee mugs
- Aesop soap pumps
