See ya later, summer 👋

A roll from the celebrating one of the last warm nights of the season. All the locals kinda know it for what it is, and it’s like a big pilgrimage to cosy corner for after school picnics, swims, surfs and fish and chips. The last night to celebrate the warm water - after the tourists have gone home but before the cold sets in. A time I always feel so grateful to live here.

I remember the first moment I saw Cat’s artwork at the Surf Coast Arts Trail last year, and it hit me suddenly and joyfully - I had never seen anything like it! It’s a beautiful mix of ceramic and painted art, with designs that are a bit Northern European folklore and a bit NZ culture and a bit grandma and a bit badass. She’s so cool. (Her pieces would make a great mum’s day gift too, just a friendly PSA from someone who likes to shop small and local 🫶)

Sometimes a double exposure just lands perfectly, how you planned it in your mind’s eye, but maybe better because honestly it’s very hard to imagine how they will turn out. I love this one from a beach sunrise family photography session at Point Addis last week.

I love playing with different lighting directions, blur in one of the exposures, textures of light and water when I do them. Remembering where I placed figures in the frame and giving them breathing room helps but sometimes I get a bit excited and forget entirely.
