Our name means a lot to us 💚🌱
So it’s important to us that you can say it properly so it carries the impact it’s intended to.
Someone recently told me to change our name because it ‘didn’t make sense’ and the person ‘would never learn Welsh.’
The point isn’t to learn Welsh, but the point is to be exposed to the beauty of minority language. The point is to connect to your craft whilst also connecting to what makes you, YOU. Whether that’s your language, your culture, your style, your hobbies. Whatever it is, it’s important to you and it’s important to hadau.
hadau will never change it’s name as it’s an invitation to lean into what makes us, us. It’s a connection to identity, language and culture. Its connection to heritage, to family, to politics.
I feel incredibly passionate about the importance of minority languages and that being a vehicle to connecting us to culture and history in a way that the English language could never do for me and so many others.
hadau is about connecting through zines, and zines are about connecting with what matters most to YOU. And minority languages are one of those for us.
So no, we will not change hadau to be easier to pronounce or understand. Zines aren’t supposed to be easy to understand. They’re meant to be whatever the maker wants it to be. As is hadau.
Anyway
