Beyond Darkness
I first met South Sudan’s national blind football team in Kampala, Uganda, as they chased the African Blind Football Division 2 Championship. But the real story started long after the final whistle.
Over the following weeks, I travelled across Uganda and South Sudan, spending time with the players in their homes, with their families and in their communities. Away from the pitch, I saw the daily barriers they continue to face, but also the resilience, humour and determination that defines their lives.
In a country so often associated with conflict, this team’s success became something much bigger than football. It became a symbol of pride, possibility and belonging.
Beyond Darkness is a project about challenging perceptions of disability and showing how sport can reshape lives.
