Been getting a few questions lately about paper vs canvas so I figured I’d do a proper breakdown.

Canvas is a matte finish — no reflections, no glass, looks kind of dreamy. Triple-coated in archival varnish, rated to 75 years in the right conditions. Great if you’re going on a wall that gets a bit of light bouncing around.

Paper is where the detail really lives. Sharper image — but because we frame it behind glass you’ll get some reflection depending on where you hang it. Rated to 85+ years archival.

Both are printed in-house on our Canon Pro Series, Australian made oak frames. If you’ve got a wall in mind, tell me the light situation — I’ll tell you which one fits.

A two-night escape, no kids, first time the grandparents have had them overnight. Massage booked. Camera gear packed anyway, because old habits.

We checked in, had a glass of champagne, and then I saw the water. That was it — tripod out, filters on, rock-scrambling around Silky Oaks for the rest of the day while Steph rolled her eyes and smiled, because she’s seen this before.

Would’ve been a great day for the remote trigger — sitting exactly where I left it, on my desk at the gallery. Back to basics and a 5 second delay. 😅

Missed my 2pm massage entirely. Steph took it in my place. I took hers the next day, because she already knew there was no getting me back before dark.

This is genuinely how I switch off. Long exposures force you to slow down and be deliberate — set it up right, then stand there for 30 seconds doing nothing but listening to the rainforest while the camera does the work. Hard to find anything more mindful than that.

The beauty of travelling with two cameras — Steph took the moss shot in this set. She’s the one who taught me composition right back at the start of this whole journey.

Half an hour of patience for one pass over open sand.

She hugged the coral edge the whole way at Heron Island, unwilling to drift out over the channel — until she finally cruised toward the middle, and I had my window.

Popped over the top, got the shot, gave her a wave, and we went our separate ways. 🐢

I’ve called this one The Passage — it’s already found its way into a few homes since going up. Available now in the gallery and online.
