Gary has been taking photographs for over 35 years and has always focused on emotive landscapes and travelougue imagery. He has lived in UK, USA and Australia, currently residing in Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, using it as a base to build up his catalogue of the rich local scenery, world travel & fine tuning his production technique. He has worked as both a professional portrait/wedding photographer and in the early 2000s a photojournalist for local London tabloids alongside his Exec Producer BBC job at the time. His pictures have appeared in magazines, stamps, exhibitions, TV, Multimedia and newspapers. The Photographs
Gary tries to find beauty in our world and has travelled extensively in Central Asia, Europe, US, Hawaii, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada, North Africa, Turkey and many more places. His work varies from travel, abstract, landscapes, street photography, studio portraiture, virtual worlds, musicians, events and much more. He enjoys capturing the land bathed in glorious sunrise or sunset light in less trodden places. Prints are available to order online at http://garyphayes.com/photography

Equipment
From his late teens he spent many years using medium format film cameras including Mamiya RB67ProSD & 7 series, Pentax 67 and Fuji plus he used a large format 7×5 inch camera for a few years too. Gary became proficient in medium format chemical darkroom techniques through the 1990s but in the early 2000s was one of the first photographers in London to switch to professional digital with the Canon 10D. He currently uses Sony A7rII, A6000, Fuji X100s & Canon EOS M as his main ‘location’ kit but sometimes hires medium format film panoramic cameras for commissioned shoots. He currently uses a 4×4 Toyota to get deeper into the Australian bush and is often seen walking back through thick bush in the near dark after another momentous sunset session. He has a range of printers in his photo and music studio and he uses local printers for very large prints.

VOW TO RETURN - A nice walk out to Walls LO over the Grose this afternoon. No one else around on the way in, birds singing, a gentle warm wind, lovely spring flowers everywhere and getting close to my favourite spot - what, a wedding / vows ceremony going on at the best viewpoint?

A few photographers, someone reading the vows to the couple, video and photo ladies - another photo chap approached me as I was keeping out of the way, and politely asked me to not get too close as they were also going to have a private ch*****ne picnic and might 'be a while'.

I explored some other spots out of sight of them during the golden light and quite liked this warm sandstone rock foreground to the valley scene. Then the peace disturbed a little by what sounded like a Florence and the Machine song playing at the lookout. I left before the full sunset. Hope they have a lovely life together and the shots and video came out nice as the light was lovely and soft.
