I have always been interested in psychology (I even wanted to study it at one point) so I approach my branding photo sessions with a real curiosity about the WHY behind a business. Why someone chooses what they do, what led them there.

There is something really special about a complete stranger sharing stories from their childhood...

I was curious about how Kylie's business name is spelled on her business card so I asked. Kylie said that her dad ran a curtain business from their home in the 1970s, while her mum sewed curtains for him. Kylie and her sister used to play dress-ups with leftover curtain fabric and curtain hooks. Her dad called it “Co-Ordinated Curtains” and it’s from that sentiment that Kylie chose to carry the name forward.

A fun moment from the shoot - Kylie has got a little pop-up shop within Kaleidoscope Rugs on Pinjarra Road and we asked the customer browsing the samples if she would pose for us. She was adventurous enough to say yes and while I was capturing their interaction, Kylie secured a booking for a measure-and-quote! How good it that!

I can’t wait to see how she uses these images on her soon-to-be live website.

Don reached out with a pretty clear idea of the portrait he wanted - something he could print, frame and gift as a Christmas and farewell present before he moves back overseas after living in Australia for over 40 years. It was for his step-daughter and granddaughter, so it had to be special yet casual. On the day, while sharing our life stories, he let me do what I do best - capturing his personality to create something priceless. This ended up being my absolute favourite, taken just down the road from his place in the retirement village.

Don received his retouched images within 3 days and him being 88 years old certainly did not hinder accessing his photo gallery online. "Is Don. Is Good." Is it a recently revived vintage ad or is what Don likes to say? It's both - he is a former head chef after all.
