With the demise of VHS and really, any video tape format, we are noticing more and more tapes are being given to us for conversion to digital format, (DVD and/or USB) that are covered in mould like the one in the picture. This mould usually starts on the edges and over time, seeps down to the entire tape. This in turn creates a glue like effect causing the tape to stick to itself and as it unwinds during play or fast forward/rewind the tape tears, also as in the picture. We at Davies Video Productions will attempt to repair it twice but after that if the tape tears again within a few seconds, the sad decision is made to not continue. If you have valuable video tape sitting in your cupboard, please check it out and if there is no visible mould, fast forward/rewind the tape at least annually, or better still, have it converted to a digital format. This mould I believe, is caused by the high humidity of our Fraser Coast location. We have converted videotapes from other parts of Qld, but this mould appears to be mostly in our area. Please check your valuable videotapes.
Don’t forget, we offer free weekly pick up and delivery of tapes to Maryborough clients. Obligation free quotations. Call us now on 0417 761 338 anytime.
We can still convert your old 8mm movie films to a digital format as well, DVDs and USBs!
