This is why I never get tired of flying in SEQ.

Took the drone up over the Scenic Rim for golden hour and the light just... melted over the ridges. That 10-minute window where everything turns to gold.

This Reel has TWO photos I captured with the drone – let me know in the comments which one is your favourite, 1 or 2. I honestly can't decide.

Filmed near Ipswich / Scenic Rim, Queensland. All drone, no filters, just that perfect winter light we get out here.

I post regular landscape, nightscape, astro, weather and drone photos. If you want to see Queensland from above, hit Follow on Murray Fox Photography and tag a mate who needs to see this.

Would you hike here for sunrise or sunset?

That last five minutes of light in the Scenic Rim hits different.

I put the Mavic 3 Pro up just west of Maroon Dam last Saturday evening and watched the sun slide across these rolling paddocks. The little peak catching the gold is on the western side of Maroon Dam about 12km west of Rathdowney.

Long shadows, warm grass, that deep blue Queensland sky fading to peach. Even the cattle down in the green strip bottom left stopped grazing for a minute.

Shot: DJI Mavic 3 Pro. One battery, zero wind, pure golden hour.

I’m chasing more of these quiet, last-light moments around SEQ and Northern NSW all winter. If you love big country, drone perspectives, and places you can actually drive to from Ipswich and Brisbane and the Gold Coast, follow Murray Fox Photography here on Facebook. I post new photos most weeks, plus the stories behind them.

πŸ‘‰ Hit Follow, and tell me: have you camped, paddled or hiked around Maroon? What’s your favourite Scenic Rim sunset spot?

Cheers, Murray

The latest in smart telescopes and this machine is a thing of wonder. Check out what I was able to capture from my backyard in Suburban Queensland Australia!! The resulting images were processed in Pixinsight using the data collected by the Seestar.

The Statue of Liberty Nebula (catalogued as NGC 3576) is a glowing, highly active star-forming region located approximately 9,000 light-years away from Earth in the southern constellation Carina. Spanning over 100 light-years across, its central glowing gas clouds uniquely resemble the famous monument.

I captured this in my backyard using the Seestar S30 Pro smart telescope and post processed the 240 x 60 second images using Pixinsight to bring out the red nebulosity in this area.

Very cool part of the night sky to investigate, if you look at the full size image you can also see a cool star cluster in the upper right.

Be sure to follow my page to see more of my photos as I capture them and until next time, Clear Skies!!

16,000 Followers! THANK YOU

*Edited as you are all just so amazing and blew past the 15k in days!!

Wow. I just watched the counter tick past 16,000 followers and had to put the camera down for a minute.

When I started Murray Fox Photography here in Ipswich, it was just me, a camera, and a love of chasing light around Southeast Queensland. I never imagined 16,000 of you would choose to come along for the ride.

Thank you. Profusely, sincerely, thank you.

Thank you for every like, comment, share, and DM. For the early-morning landscape love, the wildlife shots, the storm chases, and the many late nights I've been able to share with you. Thank you for the feedback that makes me better, and for sending my work on to your mates.

This isn't just a number on a screen. It's 16,000 people who've decided to spend a little part of their day looking through my lens. That is an honour I don't take lightly.

I'm celebrating tonight with a very large coffee and a head full of photo ideas I can't wait to share with you. Here's to the next 16,000 frames, together.

With huge gratitude,
Murray

This is the Veil Nebula – the ghostly remains of a star that exploded 20,000 years ago, now 2,400 light-years away in Cygnus.

What makes this shot wild is where and how it was taken:

Sky data: Seestar S30 Pro, sitting in my backyard in Ipswich, Queensland (solid Bortle 6, streetlights and all) 4 hours of 30-second subs, stacked and processed in PixInsight.

Processed to pull out the real physics: deep red Hydrogen-alpha and electric blue Oxygen-III filaments you normally need a full rig and dark skies to see.

Simple app to use, simple polar alignment setup as I shot in EQ mode for best results. No cables everywhere. I set it up, tapped "Veil Nebula" in the app, made a coffee, and let it run while my chilling on the lounge. Simplicity of use is simply amazing.

I've been doing deep sky for years with big gear. The S30 Pro is different. It's an awesome smart telescope that gives you clean, narrowband-rich data from suburbia that survives a proper PixInsight workflow.

I think this is just the start. With the new dual-camera firmware letting you shoot widefield Milky Way and deep sky at the same time, this little box is going to change what we can do at night!

I'm going to be pushing it hard over winter – more supernova remnants and more Queensland dark-sky blend, just need the weather to play ball!

What do you think of this target? Do you love the colours as much as I do?

Cheers, Murray

The Milky Way Core over the Scenic Rim β€” and yes, that sky came from a smart telescope.

Saturday night (6 June 2026) I set up two cameras side by side in the Scenic Rim, Queensland. Foreground: my Sony A7RIV, single exposure for the hills and grass. Sky: the brand new ZWO Seestar S30 Pro in its new Milky Way Mode.

I let it run 16 x 30-second frames, stacked in-camera, then took the stack into PixInsight. What came out shocked me. I've used the Seestar for deep space, but I've never pulled this level of colour and detail, especially in the red nebulosity around Sagittarius, from one before. It is simply amazing.

Why it works: the S30 Pro isn't just a firmware bump. It's a 4-element apo lens, IMX585 sensor, 4K dual-camera system with a dedicated wide-field mode built for exactly this kind of shot. Community chatter on this new smart telescope is hot right now.

For me, this is the start of something bigger. A scope you can carry in one hand that gives you tracked, stacked wide-field data good enough to blend with a full-frame foreground? That's going to change how a lot of us shoot nightscapes in Australia.

I'm going to be testing the S30 Pro hard over winter β€” more blends, more nebulae, more real-world workflows. If you want to follow along, hit Follow on this page and share this post with someone who loves the night sky as much as you do :)

Tech notes for the pixel-peepers:

Sky: Seestar S30 Pro, Milky Way Mode, 16x30s, stacked + PixInsight
Foreground: Sony A7RIV, blended in Affinity 3
Location: Scenic Rim, QLD β€” Bortle 3, 6 June 2026, ∼9pm

I drove out past Boonah last night because the sky was finally clear.

No streetlights. No phone reception. Just this old tin shed in the Scenic Rim, and the whole Milky Way rolling up right behind it.

It was cold, with a breeze you felt, but It's hard to worry about much when the sky looks like this and you are with great friends Jason Ng Photography and Blair Caldwell Photography

This isn't overseas. This is an hour and a half from Ipswich. This is our backyard on a cold winter night.

I'm Murray, I spend my nights hunting for quiet corners like this all over SEQ and Northern NSW and I post them here on Murray Fox Photography. If you want more local skies, country sheds, and places you might have driven past a hundred times looking like this, hit Follow. I'll be posting up when the skies are clear :)

Have you seen it this bright lately? Tag someone you'd take out here to see it in person.

Cheers, Murray.
