Believe it or not, I used to say Iโd never shoot in a studio. I genuinely believed outdoor sessions were just superior. Golden light, open skies, greeneryโฆ itโs all still so beautiful to me.
I even explored in-home lifestyle sessions for a little while too.
But then I became a mum myself ~ have you noticed how having babies changes the way you see things?
I began to appreciate the quiet and gentle pace a studio session can provide during those early weeks.
Comfort and consistency
No checking weather apps, no harsh heat, wind or mosquitos, no pressure to tidy the house or travel to distant outdoor locations while carrying a newborn and all the baby things. Studio sessions offer a calm, comfortable space to simply settle in and breathe.
Creativity and newborn posing
I can get creative with artistic setups and include gentle newborn posing using professional lighting and equipment ~ these kinds of posed newborn images are often best achieved in a controlled studio environment.
Playing with soft light
I love the creative freedom studio lighting gives me. From soft neutrals to dreamy silhouettes and gentle shadows, light helps highlight the connection and emotion that matters most.
Enjoying the newborn bubble
Those early newborn days can feel so inward and tender. Studio sessions create a private space to slow down, cuddle your baby, feed when needed, and simply soak it all in ๐ค
So while there will always be a place in my heart for both indoor and outdoor sessions, these are just some of the reasons I find myself recommending newborn studio sessions more and more these days.
