A photo can be about so much more than just capturing the moment. In the case of this one so many things, planing, thinking, considering, sweat went into a glimpse of a moment. Weather, location, wind, thermics, view, angle, equipment, communication. Everything had to align and in the end there was a lot of doubt as well. Can we make the athlete fly exactly where we need him to be? There was an especially critical moment when we lost sight of the glider the moment he came within the radius of the sun. I had my eclipse glasses half way on, halfway off. One eye tried to spot im in the sky, the other was focused on the sun, one hand on the camera, the other on the radio. The last 10 seconds where just blind guessing. But after all and with a lot of luck we were able to capture them perfectly. The feeling of making the almost impossible possible and sharing the joy of the perfect moment with such a good team makes for a memorable photograph. What a day!
