In 2020 I did a couple shoot with Kwagga & Nicole. In 2026 I photographed their wedding day. What a full circle moment!

One of the greatest privileges of this job is being invited back into people’s lives again and again. Watching milestones unfold and celebrating alongside families. Since that first couple shoot, I’ve also had the honour of photographing her twin sister’s proposal in 2021, making this family feel even more familiar to me.

After relocating to Scotland, they came home to South Africa to celebrate their wedding surrounded by the people they love most.

And what a celebration it was.

Then the South African bushveld showed off with something so beautiful that half their international guests ended up on the rooftop with their cameras out, trying to capture something we South Africans sometimes take for granted: A bushveld sunset.

Some people carry sunshine with them wherever they go. These two brought enough to light up their entire wedding day.

If you told me four years ago that a conversation at a wedding would eventually lead to me standing on a beach in Bali photographing that same guest’s wedding day, I wouldn’t have believed you.

But that’s exactly what happened.

Marné was a guest at & ’s wedding that I documented back in 2022. At some point, after I had taken a few photos of her, she told me, “One day when I get married, you’re going to be my photographer.”. The funny thing is, she didn’t even know Etienne existed yet, but she already made up her mind.

Fast forward a few years and I’ve had the privilege of photographing their engagement, bo***ir session, rehearsal dinner, wedding in Bali, and celebration back home in South Africa. They simply became one of those couples I genuinely care about. One of those who became friends.

Photographing my first international wedding was an incredible milestone, but the greatest privilege of this job isn’t travelling to beautiful places. It’s being trusted enough to be invited there.

I photographed the first part of their wedding celebrations three weeks earlier (I haven’t even shared ANYTHING from this trip, stay tuned to hear all about the adventure we went on to document Marnè & Etienne’s love story — clue: it was NOT in South Africa), so naturally I thought I knew what dress was coming.

I was SOOOO wrong.

When Marné arrived at the church wearing her great-grandmother’s wedding gown, I had a brief moment of trying to act cool while internally freaking out. Maybe I did actually freak out. Idk. She might be able to confirm that.

But wow, what a privilege to document a piece of family history being worn again, in the very church where she grew up in ✨
