Today we had the honour of covering the official state funeral service of Captain Louis Nel, who was tragically shot and killed in Umhlanga.

The memorial and funeral proceedings were conducted with dignity and respect, bringing together members of the South African Police Service, government officials, law enforcement divisions, family, friends and the wider community to pay their final respects to a man who served his country with dedication and courage.

The service, professionally conducted by , reflected the deep honour and recognition given to Captain Nel’s life and service. Emotional tributes, ceremonial processions and moments of silence filled the venue as colleagues and loved ones remembered his commitment to protecting the people of South Africa.

From the SAPS ceremonial guards to the heartfelt speeches delivered on stage, the atmosphere carried both sorrow and pride, honouring a life of service that ended far too soon.

Our condolences go out to the Nel family, friends and every member of the SAPS community during this difficult time.

May Captain Louis Nel rest in peace. 🕊️
