My husband’s scuba equipment has officially been recruited!

My husband: “Where are my scuba weights?”

Me: “They have a photoshoot today.” 😂

One of the little things you may never see in the final image — I use a 5 lb weight to add stability to certain bucket props before baby is ever placed inside.

Because the setup can be cute, but **safety comes first. Always.**

Newborn photography is so much more than taking the picture. It’s preparing every little detail before your baby is even placed in the prop.

Would you have guessed this is what I use scuba weights for? 😂

Here are my 5 tips for a calmer newborn session:
1. Preparation starts BEFORE session day.
A pre-session consultation allows us to plan ahead. I guide my parents through what to expect, how to prepare baby, and what we’ll do once they arrive. The less we have to figure out on session day, the calmer the experience can be.
2. A little awake time can help.
On the morning of the session, I may recommend a bath, some diaper-only time, talking to baby, and gentle interaction to encourage a little awake time before the session. We never force baby to stay awake—if baby needs to sleep, we follow their cues.
3. Plan feeding around the session.
A comfortably full baby is often a content baby. Depending on baby’s normal feeding schedule, I guide parents on when to feed before arriving or once they’re at the studio. We never delay a hungry baby’s feeding just for photos.
4. Have a workflow ready.
This one is for the photographer! Before baby arrives, my sets, wraps and props are already planned and ready. I organize poses and transitions to minimize unnecessary handling and keep baby warm and comfortable throughout the session.
5. Follow BABY, not the schedule.
This might be the most important one. Every newborn is different. If baby needs to eat, we feed. If baby needs to be held, we pause. If a pose isn’t working, I move on. A calm newborn session comes from patience—not rushing to complete a shot list.
And remember: these tips can help us prepare, but every baby is different. My goal is never to force a “perfect” session—it’s to create beautiful images while keeping baby’s comfort at the center of the experience.

Booking your newborn session doesn’t have to feel complicated.

Ideally, I recommend reaching out during your **third trimester**, so we can plan ahead and have everything ready before your little one arrives. But if baby is already here and you haven’t booked yet, please don’t let that stop you from capturing this season.

**The first step is simply to call me.**

From there, I’ll guide you through the entire process—from planning your session and understanding your vision to wardrobe, posing, wrapping baby, and bringing everything together beautifully.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. That’s what I’m here for.

Contract signed for life: photographer mom, full-time model daughter 😂📸
We found this beautiful little spot and couldn’t resist. We explored, played around, tried different styles, and honestly… we ended up with WAY too many favorites. These are the ones she picked (so you know they passed the real test 😅).
