The Art of Becoming
"The butterfly is a symbol of metamorphosis and transformation.
The symbol of new life, letting go of old cycles and finding your true inner expression.
The butterfly calls you to expand your awareness, spread your wings and call forth your inner joy.
Let go of limitations, and free yourself to express your own beauty within.
It is the time of spiritual transitions. Symbolic of moving from one phase of life to the next reaching higher, reaching outward, leaving the safety of the cocoon and finding your own place among the flowers of life.
Allowing the wind to carry you forward to your goals and dreams. A time of self-discovery rebirth. The butterfly shows you the beauty within."
I posted this concept idea I had and asked if anyone wanted to participate. Sarah reached out and I knew she would be a perfect fit! I didn't have the location set in stone until just hours before we had planned to meet. I had a few ideas, and the one we ended up using was not what I thought my first choice would be but ended up being so beautiful and perfect for what I had planned! My husband helped with setting up this chair, and my brother assisted me with helping carry all my gear around. The lighting was absolutely gorgeous and then we had a mostly full moon which was unplanned (I didn't know if the moon would show or not) but it was perfect for the vibe we were going after! After it got pretty dark, it was definitely a challenge for me working with so little light and not using a flash, I'll share more photos later but between my new mirrorless camera and my brother holding MY PHONE LIGHT, the pictures turned out INSANE! This shoot satisfied me so much in so many ways, I love being able to work with other artists (Sarah Ruby Music) and bringing this concept to life was a dream!
I saw this chair on my parents patio and KNEW I had to do a shoot with it, after looking at it for a few minutes I had realization that it reminded me a lot of a cocoon. I started thinking about how I could work around that idea and the concept of "the art of becoming" came to mind (also, this theme had been in my life for awhile so it was very fitting). My thought behind it was that as we move through life, even moments when we feel uncomfortable, in transition, unsettled, or even more still and secure moments, all of it is a part of a beautiful process of becoming who we are created to be. I hope to become deeply who I am more and more with grace as I walk through life.
