Here’s something I think about a lot.
The version of your senior that exists right now - the way they laugh, the way they carry themselves, the things they’re into, the way they look at the world - this version is temporary.
Not in a sad way. Just in the truest way. They’re going to keep growing and changing, and that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen. But this particular moment, this specific point in their life, only exists once.
That’s what we’re really doing when we photograph a senior. We’re not just making nice pictures for the wall. We’re documenting someone at a crossroads - old enough to know who they are, young enough that everything is still ahead of them.
That’s worth showing up for. And it’s worth doing while the moment is still here.

Three things September offers that other months simply don’t.
The blooms are still there. Flower fields hit their late-season peak in September, and the color and texture they add to portraits is genuinely hard to replicate with anything else. By October, that window has mostly closed.
The light is working in your favor. That golden, warm quality that makes portraits look like portraits - not snapshots - shows up in a real way this time of year. It’s one of the biggest factors in how the final images look and feel.
The weather is actually comfortable. Not too hot to wear the outfits you actually want to wear. Not cold enough to worry about coats and layers changing the whole look. That in-between comfort makes a difference in how relaxed and natural seniors feel during a session.
September has all three at once. That combination doesn’t last long.

This portrait, taken eight years ago, is one of the first that truly filled me with pride, and it holds a deep significance for me. It captures a fur baby who has brought endless joy to my daughter’s life. Learning about her illness has been heartbreaking for us. Sharing this photo feels like a way to honor their incredible bond and celebrate all the happiness she has given us.
