Lake Colchuck, Washington.

Another early morning.

We knew we needed to be at the trailhead around 6:30am, and after what felt like the longest, bumpiest dirt road ever — where I said thank goodness we rented a Jeep about 47 times — we pulled into the last parking spot.

The sun still hadn’t made it over the North Cascades yet. It was cold. We were tired. And then we started climbing.

I don’t even know how to explain this hike.

Every time I thought it couldn’t possibly get prettier, it did.

And then we reached the lake.

That blue water. Those mountains. Capri standing on a rock and then deciding she was actually going to jump into a glacier lake while I questioned every parenting decision that had led us to this moment. 😂

I think this may be my favorite hike I have ever done.

It was hard. It was beautiful. And it was worth every single step.

There are places that make you realize just how big this world is and how much of it you still haven’t seen.

Every summer I get to do one of my favorite things.

A few years ago I met two photographers at a workshop, and somehow we went from strangers to lifelong friends. Now every summer we pick an incredible location, spend a few days together creating, laughing way too much, and photographing amazing families.

This year we're heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains here in Virginia and we're looking for an expecting family to model for us!

We're hoping to find a mama-to-be with her family.

The best part? You'll have three photographers capturing your family, so you'll end up with an incredible variety of images you'll treasure forever.

We're looking for a family who:
• Is available August 8 or 9
• Is willing to let us help style everyone
• Loves mountain views, adventure, and isn't afraid to have some fun!

Some sessions aren’t about perfect smiles or looking at the camera.

They’re about tiny arms wrapped around your neck.
Piggyback rides down winding paths.
Tickles that turn into uncontrollable laughter.
The way they reach for your hand without thinking.

Surrounded by birdsong, warm sunlight filtering through the trees, and the wonder only a four-year-old can bring.

These are the moments that matter.
The ones that become treasured memories long after little hands have grown.

I remember her first day of preschool like it was yesterday.

She wrapped her little arms around me and wouldn’t let go. The teachers finally had to gently peel her away while I stood there trying not to cry.

And now somehow... she’s graduated high school.

The tiny hand I used to hold now reaches for a future all her own. The little girl who needed me for everything is becoming a young woman ready to take on the world.

My heart is so proud, so grateful, and honestly, a little broken too.

If you’re a parent in the thick of the little years, the sleepless nights, the school drop-offs, the endless activities—hold on tight. One day you’ll blink, and they’ll be walking across a stage.

It’s starting to feel real now.

For so long, senior photos just felt like part of the job — another season, another milestone I was helping other families hold onto. I’ve photographed her friends, watched them grow up, smiled behind the camera… but somehow it still didn’t fully hit me.

And now her cap and gown are hanging in my closet. Quietly waiting.
A reminder that the countdown to my baby’s graduation is no longer somewhere in the distance. It’s here.

How did we get from tiny hands reaching for mine… to this?

To college visits and late-night talks about the future and a year that suddenly feels like it’s moving too fast to hold onto.

There’s this strange ache in motherhood where your heart can feel overwhelmingly proud and heartbreakingly nostalgic at the exact same time.

I remember the tears that filled my eyes the moment I heard they were expecting.

I’ve known her since kindergarten — my best friend’s little sister, always somewhere in the background of every milestone growing up. Childhood memories, graduations, laughter, heartbreak, becoming who we are… she was always there.

These are the moments that quietly change everything.
The tiny fingers. The sleepy sighs. The way two people look at their baby like they’re holding the entire world in their arms.🤍

This may have been the windiest session I’ve ever photographed in Historic Jamestowne and honestly… I loved every second of it. It kind of reminded me of Iceland wind.

This session was FUN — exactly how senior sessions should feel. I was so excited when I found out her boyfriend and mom were joining us, and then it got even better when her dad and grandma surprised her too. So much love, laughter, and cheering her on the entire evening.

And now somehow we’re only one month away from watching her walk across that stage. 🤍
