Hi all! As I announced in my previous post, this July Randy and I will begin our journey from Nevada to New York.

Along the way we’ll be documenting the trip through film and photography, travelling across America together before Randy takes his very first flight home.

For those who would like to follow the journey more closely or support the project, this post shares a few ways to get involved – including handwritten postcards sent from the road, video calls during the trip, and early access to prints created along the way.

Same person. Same route. Ten years in between. 🥹
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT RANDY! ⬇️

This July I’m embarking on the next chapter in the series – a road trip from Nevada to New York with my dearest Randy.

I first met and photographed Randy in 2015 during a road trip through America. Since then, I’ve returned almost every year to his home in Ely, Nevada to film and photograph him.

Randy has rarely left Nevada and has never flown before. When I asked him where he most wanted to go, his answer was immediate: New York City. We’ll travel by road from Nevada, documenting the journey through film and photography and creating a new chapter of work together. Randy has recently started making photographs of his own, bringing a new perspective into the series as we both photograph one another and the world around us along the way. On our way back, Randy will take his very first flight.

This series stands as a reminder that a fleeting encounter can grow into an ongoing connection, even when you live on opposite sides of the world, in different cultures, or in completely different worlds. I consider Randy family — like the son I never had or the little brother from afar — always there for each other when needed.

I met this family for the first time in 2022. This excerpt, shot in 2022, discusses the mental health struggles during Alice’s (then Logan) transition. Fast forward to 2026, and Alice is married, happy and glowing. To see her shine in her gown, check the previous post.

Logan: “I’m probably going to keep it Logan, change my middle name and keep my last name. Alice. It was about five months ago they had me in a hospital because I was taking estrogen at the time. I’m transitioning. They thought I had too much.”

Savannah: “No. He called the police.”

Logan: “I did call the police.”

Savannah: “Yeah, you called the police because you wanted to hurt yourself. And the police showed up, put him in handcuffs and then took him to the state hospital. The hospital is when you feel suicidal and you feel like you’re going to hurt yourself. Then they take you into multiple therapies and then you get sent home. Hopefully.”

Robin: “Are you feeling better now?”

Logan: “I’m good.”

A portrait of Alice on her wedding day, Wichita Falls, Texas, 2025.

In a secondhand shop next to the subway, at an impossible height, I spot a dress hanging on the wall. “It’s a very small size,” the saleswoman says. “I think it will fit you.” “I’ll take it!” I answer. “Congratulations!” she sounds excited.

Outside in the parking lot, the dress and I dance around in a circle. Then, I stuff the dress into the back of my rental car and drive towards Alice. The dress fits her perfectly. Once she puts it on, she doesn’t take it off.
