Honored that Canyonlands Natural History Association has added 5 of our Moab short films to daily viewing options on their theater big screen at the Moab Information Center, including the just-released “Old Growth Forests of Moab.” Visitors can watch these on the big screen along with the original “Welcome to Moab“ theater film that we created in 2019. This week we are in Moab on a 7-day shoot filming “Creatures of the Moab Sand Dunes That Come Out at Night.”

There are Old Growth Forests in Moab? The idea that the under-appreciated Pinyon-Juniper forests in the Moab desert are actually “old growth forests” is surprising – and more importantly – worth preserving. Check out our latest short film revealing how there is so much more than meets the eye in these arid forest landscapes. Produced in cooperation with Sand Flats Recreation Area

Tonight Artemis II passes behind the Moon and brings back memories of 1968 when the crew of Apollo 8 first attempted this perilous journey in a time when technology as we know it today didn’t exist. For Finley-Holiday Films, this was a time of mass producing Apollo space program color slides and super 8mm movies that were sold in museums, science centers and gift shops across the country. 1969 was Finley-Holiday’s biggest financial year ever thanks to the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and the foresight of founder and president Bill Finley. Bill was a big fan of spaceflight since the Buck Rogers days of his childhood, and the Apollo Moon Landing missions were a vision and dream come true for him.

Spent weeks tracking down the elusive Pinyon Jays around Moab for a new short film and finally caught up to them in October! Pinyon Jays are the only North American land bird that nests in colonies. They mate for life and live in large permanent flocks with one of the most complex vocal communication systems among birds. Found in Pinyon-Juniper forests across the west, their population has declined dramatically since the 1960’s. Turn up the sound and enjoy!

We were sad to learn that the Grand Canyon Lodge burned last week. In 2009, we produced this 5-minute video capturing the lodge experience and its intriguing history. This is not the first time Grand Canyon Lodge was destroyed by fire. Built in 1928, it burned down just four years later. Amazingly, it was rebuilt and re-opened its doors in 1937, resurrected from the ashes.

Walt Dabney talks about what it would cost to transfer Utah's Public Lands out of public ownership to the state and the ever-rising cost of wildfire suppression in the West.
