Waking up at 5am on my day off from work, first day feeling back to normal from being sick. There is no better reward than being able to see a female sea turtle nesting on the beach, hopping in the water and seeing so much marine life. Usually to see this many different species to photograph would’ve taken me weeks, sometimes even months of repeated trips.

90% of the photos I take don’t make it to the Instagram feed. I see so many talented photographers with tack sharp photos, beautiful compositions, and overall just fantastic photos. I’d be lying if I said I don’t compare my work to theirs. But I find myself coming back to this one; terrible visibility, not sharp at all, composition probably have room for improvement ( I have a hard time understanding composition 😅) but the feeling I had experienced being in the water seeing this can only be explained as a sense of awe and wonder and I only hope it comes through to the viewers. Happy World Turtle Day! Established by the Malibu-based American Tortoise Rescue, the annual observance raises awareness about the threats facing turtles and tortoises. With an estimated 61% of species threatened or extinct, the day emphasizes habitat protection, conservation, and stopping the illegal pet trade. “The Journey Begins” is available on my website, link in Bio. 20% of profits go to conservation efforts such as Sea Turtle Conservancy!

It can be hard to get up before the sun ☀️ but that’s when the fun starts! For me, I can go both ways. I love getting up early just to be able to witness peaceful moments like these on the beach but there are days I want to sleep just a little longer. So how about you? Are you one to get the early worm or catch a few more Z’s?
