There are some childhood stories that just seem to follow us through life… and Winnie the Pooh is definitely one of them. 🍯💛

Over the years, we’ve photographed quite a few Pooh First Birthday sessions at Cloud 9 Studios, but what I love is that the reason families choose Pooh is almost never the same.

One baby’s Pooh story started before she was even born with a family nickname: “Yellow.”

Another family brought in the Winnie the Pooh books Mom had saved from her own childhood because they reminded her of the bedtime stories she shared with her mother.

And another Mom simply LOVED Pooh, had been planning the outfits for months, and was completely all in. 😂

Same theme.

Completely different stories.

And that is exactly why I always want to know not just WHAT theme you picked, but WHY you picked it.

Because that is where the true meaning of the experience begins. It’s where a cute idea becomes something personal, and the photographs start telling a story that could only belong to your family.

Four generations came together to celebrate this little boy's FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! 🎂❤️

And let me tell you, getting everyone ready for this photograph was half the fun! 😂

There was laughing, a little fussing over who was going to stand where, and of course, everyone wanted to make sure they looked their best for the big occasion!

But there was one thing Mom knew for sure. She wanted her mother and grandmother in this photograph.

These are the women helping her raise her boys. The ones who show up, love on them, sing silly songs, change diapers, offer advice, and jump in wherever they're needed.

And they were doing ALL of that during our session! 😂

I also loved that big brother, who is now 11, wrapped his arms around Mom for the photograph. She told me afterward how happy that made her because those hugs don't happen quite as often anymore.

Whenever I have four generations together in my studio, I always stop and pause for a moment. I know how special it is to have that much family surrounding a child.

And I think about these two boys, growing up with the love, laughter, wisdom, and probably a little bit of spoiling from these three wonderful women. ❤️

Someday, when they look at this photograph, I hope they see more than the people who came together for a birthday.

I hope they see just how many people were cheering them on from the very beginning.

Happy FIRST Birthday, little man! You have quite the village loving you! 🎉❤️

🎅🔧 OH MY GOODNESS!!! THE OUTFITS!!! ❤️🎄

When I dreamed up Santa’s SleighWorks, I imagined little elves and mechanics helping Santa get his sleigh ready for Christmas.

But THIS family took the assignment to a whole new level!!! 😍

Just LOOK at these adorable little North Pole helpers!! I don’t think I stopped smiling the entire session!

Yesterday was our big Santa day at Cloud 9, and I have SO much Christmas magic to share with you over the next few weeks!

The giggles, the excitement, the little conversations with Santa… THIS is why I love what I do. ❤️

And we’re just getting started with Christmas at Cloud 9! 🎄✨

I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing those little faces peeking over the edge of our bathtub! 🫧❤️

After all the excitement of balloons, birthday cake, and getting wonderfully messy, we finish our First Birthday sessions with a magical little bubble bath.

And I have to tell you, some of the biggest smiles of the entire session happen right here!

There's just something about a tub, a little rubber ducky, and a baby who is having the time of her life.

I mean, LOOK at that face!!! 🥰

One whole year of growing, learning, exploring, and discovering all the things that make her happy.

And today, bubbles are definitely on that list. 🫧💕

I may be just a LITTLE excited about what's happening at Cloud 9 this Sunday!!! 🎅😂

Santa is coming, and we've been busy getting his SleighWorks ready for all our little Junior Mechanics!

We've got wrenches, hammers, official certificates, Christmas goodies, and a whole lot of fun planned. I might be having just as much fun getting everything ready as the kids are going to have when they get here!

One of my favorite things about Christmas at Cloud 9 is getting to watch children step into a world where they can really believe in the magic. And I get to be part of making that happen. How lucky am I?!

One year of you. One year of us. ❤️

I love thinking about how much changes in that very first year.

A year ago, Mom and Dad were meeting this little person for the very first time. Learning how to be a family together. Figuring out the sleepless nights, celebrating those first smiles, and discovering a kind of love they couldn’t have imagined before.

And now here they are, celebrating a whole year together!

Their baby has grown and changed so much. But so have they.

That’s something I love about First Birthday celebrations. We’re celebrating all the wonderful things this little person has learned to do, but we’re also celebrating Mom and Dad and everything they’ve experienced together along the way.

Because it’s not just one year of watching your baby grow.

It’s one year of growing together. ❤️

One week from today, Santa arrives at Cloud 9 Studios!!

And this year he isn’t just coming for pictures.

The kids are becoming Official Junior Sleigh Mechanics at Santa’s SleighWorks … checking the sleigh, earning their certificates, and spending a little time with the big guy himself before Christmas gets very, very busy.

We still have a couple of families we’d love to welcome next Sunday!

He started his session a little unsure.

Not upset. Just taking everything in.

Then we gave him a little more freedom to stand, move around, hold the balloons and settle into the session in his own way.

And that was all he needed.

Little by little, that sweet smile started to come out. His confidence grew. And suddenly we were getting to see more and more of him.

I say this all the time, but it’s one of the things I love most about photographing one-year-olds.

They are already so completely themselves.

Some are quiet at first. Some are curious about everything. Some want to move. Some want to watch. Some need a little extra time before they decide this whole experience might actually be fun.

And I love figuring that out.

Not how to make every baby do the same thing.

But what helps this baby feel comfortable enough to let their personality shine.

Because when Mom looks back at these portraits years from now, I want her to remember more than what he looked like at one.

I want her to remember who he was becoming. ❤️
