Leslie Joy Photography SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Hi, I’m Leslie! I’m a photographer chasing light and laughter along the California coast.

Joy is literally my middle name, and I love capturing sessions filled with sweet, silly, playful moments.

Reception outfit changes are one trend I didn’t fully appreciate when I got married—but now? I’m completely sold.

Not only are they a chance to showcase a different side of your personality and style, but they’re also incredibly practical. A shorter hemline, a little more freedom of movement, and suddenly you’re able to fully enjoy the dance floor without worrying about someone stepping on your dress every five minutes.

Part fashion statement, part quality-of-life upgrade. And honestly, I wish I’d thought of it myself.

Hi, I’m Leslie—the person behind the camera. 💛 Everything I believe about wedding photography can be traced back to a few defining chapters of my own life.

Long before I became a wedding photographer, I built my career in catering sales and event management. Years spent behind the scenes gave me a deep appreciation for everything it takes to bring a wedding day to life. It also shaped the way I photograph them today: with an understanding that the most meaningful images aren’t created in isolation, but within the rhythm of a thoughtfully orchestrated celebration.

Outside of work, I’m married to my college sweetheart. We met when we were 17 & 18, and one of my greatest joys has been watching us grow—not just as a couple, but as individuals—through every season of adulthood.

I’m also a mom to two young daughters, a role that has profoundly shaped the way I see the world. Motherhood has made me slower to notice, quicker to appreciate, and deeply aware of how quickly life changes.

At the heart of it all, that’s what drives my work: preserving the people, relationships, and moments that become the stories we carry with us for the rest of our lives.

A wedding cake has the rare ability to be both a design element and a crowd favorite.

I love when couples use their cake as an extension of their overall aesthetic—a statement piece that feels thoughtfully integrated into the celebration, whether through texture, color, shape, or scale.

But here’s my only requirement: it has to taste as good as it looks.

Because while beautiful photographs of your cake will live on long after the wedding day, your guests will remember whether they went back for a second slice.

This delightful cake from Art With Flavor met both criteria

One of my greatest hopes for every couple is that their wedding memories don’t spend a lifetime hidden away on a hard drive.

Your wedding album isn’t meant to be something you scroll past once a year. It’s meant to live on your coffee table. To be pulled down on anniversaries. To be shared with future children and grandchildren. To grow softer in the hands that revisit it over the years.

Some memories are simply too important to live locked behind a screen.

Half a year after their wedding day, P&L put their wedding attire back on and returned to their venue for the portraits they never got the chance to take the first time around.

A torrential downpour had other plans for their wedding day, so when they reached out about a portrait session as a sort of “redo” ahead of their six-month anniversary, I was honored to be the one entrusted with documenting it.

And honestly? There was something special about creating these moments without the rush of a wedding day. Just the two of them, soaking it all in, six months into married life.

Proof that some memories are worth waiting for.

📍 Montaña de Oro State Park | Los Osos, CA

One of the greatest privileges of living and working along the Central Coast is never having to look very far for beauty.

On any given day, it might be rugged cliffs meeting the ocean, rolling hills painted gold by the afternoon sun, or vineyards stretching toward distant mountain ranges.

It’s a landscape that constantly invites you to slow down and pay attention. One that reminds me, again and again, how lucky we are to celebrate love in places that feel this breathtaking. The views never get old—and neither does my gratitude for calling this corner of California home.

A trend I’ve been loving lately? Messy, mid-reception flat lays. Half-eaten slices of cake. Burnt matches scattered beside candlelight. Champagne coupes abandoned for the dance floor, waiting patiently for their owners to return.

There’s something so compelling about the evidence of a celebration in progress. The details aren’t pristine anymore—and that’s precisely the point. They tell a story of people who were too busy laughing, dancing, and making memories to worry about keeping things perfect.

The raw aftermath of a really good party.
