As 2025 comes to a close, and 2026 is full of opportunity, we have made the difficult decision to not focus on dance photography going forward.
It became apparent this past year that good dance photography is being replaced for more "affordable" options where low value, high volume images are preferred by most of the inquiries we received.
As a studio that was specifically designed for dancers, it is still not enough to build value in what we create. Offerings of special sessions of color powder (our most popular, but the least sessions we have had in the past 5 years), Rain machine (only one session in 2024), Sunrise on the beach (only one session in 2024), and Sunset on the bay (2 sessions in 2024), is disappointing as not many other dance photographers are even offering these types of sessions (or know how to light them well).
The 2025 Ambassador team was promising, and a few of the dancers were rock stars bringing dance friends to our tutu day and a group color session with some friends. Unfortunately, 1/3 of the team was unresponsive since February, and about half were unresponsive since May. This type of failure rate is completely on me as I didn't communicate expectations of being an active member in representing my photography business. I grew up in a different era where when I joined a team that I was excited for and I committed to the team until the end. In the end only a few true members would re-post my offers, and a few others would like the post. I take full responsibility for this lack of motivation from my team.
Looking at the numbers, my dance photography accounted for just over 10% of revenue from the year in which my total sales was just under 55% from sales in 2024. This was an exceptionally tough year. This is also why we are focusing in a new direction.
We will still have the studio, and we will still work with dancers who value what we create, however, our experience will be much more robust. These sessions will not just be trick after trick on set for a social media gallery. We will plan out, build a set with props, and photograph for a specific vision that the dancer and their parent want to live in their home for generations... something where the dancer's future child will be inspired and want to take up dance because "mommy looks like a ballerina" displayed in artwork in their home.
