Hey everyone! I am planning to do Christmas tree farm mini sessions this year. My initial plan was for the first weekend of December. However, I’ve seen others wanting these early in November (pre-Thanksgiving) in order to get the photos out of the way and out of mind before major holidays hit and to get Christmas cards out more timely.

Pros for November:
- Warmer
- Less holiday stress
- Less Christmas card rush

Pros for December:
- It feels more like Christmas, making for more of a holiday family memory.
- Helps get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
- You can actually grab your Christmas tree around the same time (if you’re a live tree family).

Please share your thoughts in the comments!

I can hardly believe it but pumpkin spice season has begun, the Spirit Halloweens are emerging from their cocoons, and the black cat decorations are hitting the stores. That means it’s time for fall mini sessions!

These will be at Fleitz Pumpkin Farm in Oregon, Ohio. $150 for a 15 minute session and 10 edited photos back- with the option to purchase additional photos!

I’m also so excited to announce that I will be donating $50 from each session to Tabby Tails Cat Rescue. Tabby Tails specializes in helping cats who would otherwise be overlooked in the shelter system- those with less desirable coat colors, and special or medical needs. Kitten season gets longer every year and I want to do what I can to help them restock on some supplies following a crazy few months. Their cause means a lot to me and I encourage you to check them out and make a donation of supplies or money if you are able.

Hey everyone!

I thought it was time for a little introduction. I’m Lorna - the owner and lead photographer behind Arcana Photo. I’m also the editor, scheduler, etc- it’s a one woman show over here!

A little about me:
I’ve been interested in photography since at least the age of 10 when I took a student ambassador trip to Canada. I bought my first DSLR around 2014 and had the good fortune to know some photographers who offered some solid advice and tips over the years. I shot only on a 50mm lens for years and refused to shoot in anything but manual mode in natural light because I wanted to really make everything harder for myself. Jk- but I did want to really learn my camera well and challenge myself and I accomplished that.

I lived in the Cleveland area for several years and my first job there was as a school photographer. It was such an interesting job and strangely fun. It gave me a solid understanding of studio lighting fundamentals, posing, and other equipment.

I went back to school and got my Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters of Public Health. Professionally I’ve done a little of everything and I’m not joking. Insurance, tattoo shop receptionist, water treatment lab work, preclinical med device quality assurance, and case management, to name a few. Through all my various pursuits, I’m drawn like a moth to the flame to photography.

I was scared to open myself up to new clients and people but took the leap and opened Arcana because, well, what’s the worst that can happen? I didn’t accumulate all those very different jobs by being closed off to possibilities.

A little about Arcana Photo:
As everything stands right now, I’m not quitting my “day job”. I work full time and this business is my baby- new to the world, doesn’t know ABC’s, can’t stand on its own. You get the idea.

I edit in my free time on weekends and after working hours. I may not be the speediest photographer around due to this. Of course, if you let me know of a specific deadline you’re working against I can certainly be flexible and we can work it out. My focus at this time is ensuring I take on a proper amount of work so that none of my clients are waiting too long on me and I can maintain my sanity.

I know everyone is anxious for their photos back! I would love to expand my capacity in the future but that’s just not my reality right now and I like to be honest and up front about that.

Arcana Photo is proudly inclusive of people from all walks of life which includes POC, the LGBTQ+ community, all ages, all sizes, all body types, and all ability levels. I won’t ever comment on politics to my clients during a session or in relation to their session, but since I am fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, I do reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who goes out of their way to make mean comments or make any of my other clients uncomfortable based on their identity. I tolerate pretty much everything EXCEPT hate and exclusion. Oh and gluten, I don’t tolerate that 😆. So if you have any unkind thoughts I encourage you to keep them to yourself!

I’m at home in many lighting scenarios, and pride myself on “making it work”. I do have a portable/limited studio backdrop setup and some lights but most of the time you’ll see me using natural light. I do not have a physical studio but if that is desired, we can always look at renting some time at local studio spaces.

I am willing to accept barters for the following kinds of items/services:
- Massages
- Pedicures
- Yoga Classes
- Photography equipment. I shoot Canon with an EF mount so heavy on lenses but I would also be interested in film cameras, stands, and various lighting equipment.
- Home cleaning and organizing
Maybe some other things but of course, subject to mutual agreement. Barters don’t apply to weddings or event photography.

If you’re still reading this, I applaud you and your stamina 👏🏻.

Toledo Pride was a blast this weekend. Thanks to the incredible performers with Bird's Eye View Circus for making it so memorable. I took far too many photos so here are just some of my favorites for now.

✨8-7-2026✨🍾 truly a gorgeous wedding.

Truthfully, when Trevor Kaz and Hunter first reached out about wedding photography I probably made a face like this —-> 😬. We met through Black Swamp Players community theatre, after I began doing production photos for the theatre. While I’ve done a handful of weddings- mostly as a second shooter, and a smaller one as lead- it was more of a sparse word-of-mouth operation. Weddings are a lot of pressure, even for experienced wedding photographers (I promised I’m experienced- just not as much in the wedding space 😅). I’m someone who doesn’t like to jump into anything unless I can do it responsibly. There’s a lot that goes into responsible wedding photography, including proper equipment, timeline planning, anticipating lighting conditions, researching the venue, making sure photos are backed up properly, ensuring a smooth editing process flow to avoid delays, and the list goes on. So I got ready. I made plans and adjustments both for this wedding and into the future.

I couldn’t have asked for a better day to really dive head first into all of this. Trevor and Hunter picked such amazing vendors and had such thought poured into everything. Beyond that, I have never attended a wedding as a photographer or as a guest with such an incredible group of guests. The couple’s family and friends were all incredibly kind while keeping the party vibes up and the dance floor busy all night.

A special shoutout to my second shooter Jose Garcia (owner of Hecho En Toledo as well). We’ve known each other personally and professionally for going on 7 years and we first met largely through our passion for photography. He’s someone I bounce my photo ideas off. I call him late at night to see if he can give an opinion on one tiny difference in photo edits. He’s got incredible knowledge of photography equipment, lighting, technical expertise, and troubleshooting skills. I jokingly call him my personality hire because he can talk to anyone, but he brings so much experience. It’s his willingness to shoot this wedding with me that gave me the courage to rip the proverbial band aid off and go for it. He went so beyond as a second shooter; keeping track of the timeline, making sure we got caught back up and ahead of schedule when we were behind, and helping me keep track of gear.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the lovely couple, vendors, venue coordinator Josh, and guests. It was a lot of moving parts that coalesced into a stunning castle fairytale I’ll never forget.

I am now offering a special session type: legacy sessions. I’ve had a number of requests for similar sessions over the years and it’s always an honor when someone asks me. While my hope is that I can make every session personalized, these are truly meant to meet people where they are in the times they need it most with additional flexibility.

Due to the unpredictable nature of life and death, I cannot take on unlimited numbers of these sessions. However, knowing that time is of the essence, I’ll do my best to accommodate what I can. ♥️

I couldn’t wait to share this adorable session yesterday with the cutest family. That smile is so contagious!
