This year for the Tillamook County Fair I did not enter any photographs. I volunteered on the back end of things for the photo department though!

What I did do was enter 4 paintings, 2 loaves of bread, and a collection of some of my antique cameras (fell under Crafts/Hobbies—Collections—Nostalgia class).

3 of the 4 paintings have been selected for the Oregon State Fair (judging unrelated to the Tillamook Fair). One painting did place 3rd at the Tillamook Fair!

Both bread loaves won ribbons: 2nd for my white bread loaf and 3rd for my sourdough.

And my antique cameras? 1st place.

This year was trying something different: volunteering in photography instead of entering, entering paintings done with new mediums (2 of them were pastels!), entering bread, and entering a very small portion of my camera collection!

Oddly enough the collections category at the Tillamook Fair is a judged division and class, but at the state fair it is a non judged display.

All of my photography submissions for the Oregon State Fair have been judged and selected for display and final judging at the State Fair!

Also, all of my paintings were selected as well!!

Fine Arts (Photography, artwork like drawings and painting as well as calligraphy) all must be submitted more than a month in advance of the fair for an initial round of judging. Those who get selected get to display their work and go through a final round of judging to pick winners and honorable mentions.

The work displayed the past 2 years has been amazing. There are so many talented artists in Oregon! If you get a chance, stop by the State Fair! August 28-September 7!!!

This week I made a tomato based pasta sauce from scratch as well as pasta from scratch on two different days using 2 different flour types. And yes, it makes a difference!

Earlier in the week I used Semolina which is a coarsely ground durham wheat. Then today I used a generic soft wheat ground super fine (type 00).

Making wise, I find the 00 dough easier to make and handle, but texture, rolling, and cutting wise the semolina dough is more pleasant.

Oregon State Fair submissions for the Visual Arts divisions were due last night at 10p local.

I entered 6 into photography (the max) and 3 into fine arts, also the max (paintings, sculptures, etc). Submissions are digital and go through a first round of judging. Those that excel are selected as finalists and then displayed at the Oregon State Fair at the end of August and into September. I'll find out at the end of the month if any of my work has been selected!

I recently updated the interior photography and got some new drone shots for "The Sand Castle", a home managed by Kiwanda Coastal Properties!!

This is a beautiful beach front home in the small community of Tierra Del Mar. It is about 7 minutes north of Pacific City, Oregon, home to Pelican Brewing.
