Some photographs hold memories that go far beyond what's in the frame.

When I look at Cowshed Dreams, I'm taken back to a fall day on our honeymoon with Christina. It was one of those simple, peaceful days that stays with you long after it's over.

I knew when I made this photograph that it needed to be black and white. But the reason this image means so much to me goes beyond the old barn and the countryside.

Happy National Cat Day! 🐾❤️

Somehow, this little girl has worked her way right into our hearts. There's just something about having a cat curl up with you that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Eilidh has brought so much love and personality into our home, and we're pretty happy she's part of our family.

Today is her day, so I suppose a few extra cuddles are in order. 😻

The first light of day doesn’t always arrive gently.

On this morning, it broke through the doorway of this old barn in a burst of gold, turning weathered wood and empty space into something alive for just a few moments.

Even places that have seen better days can still hold something beautiful.

Sharing the beauty until it reaches the hearts it's meant for.

I don't know who needs to see a particular photograph or what it might mean to them. Sometimes an image connects with someone in a way I could never have imagined when I made it.

That's part of why I keep sharing. There's so much beauty in this world, and if one of my photographs makes someone pause, brings back a memory, or helps them see something a little differently, then I'm glad I shared it.

I'll keep doing what I love and sharing what I find.

Not everything falling apart has lost its beauty.

There's something about this old cabin that caught my attention. Its weathered wood tells a story of time passing, while the golden leaves surrounding it seem to be putting on one last show before winter arrives.

I found myself wondering who once called this place home and what life was like here.

I'll probably never know the answers. But that's one of the things I enjoy about photography. Sometimes a scene catches my attention, and the questions it raises become just as interesting as the photograph itself.

Some places stay with you long after you've left.

The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland was one of those places for me. I'd seen the photographs and videos, but nothing prepared me for standing there myself. When the sunshine finally appeared after days of cloudy weather, I was so overwhelmed by the light, clouds, and mist that I was actually crying while photographing.

I had a vision for the black-and-white photograph I wanted to make that day. What I didn't know was how that image would eventually connect with other people, bringing back memories of their own experiences at the cliffs.

In this week's Through My Viewfinder blog, I share the story behind the photograph and some of the conversations I've had with people who've seen it at my art shows.

It's interesting how we can look at the same photograph and each see something a little different.

Some of the best parts of fall photography happen between the shots.

Getting out of the truck, finding a scene that catches my eye, chasing a little light through the aspens, or coming across railroad tracks framed by fall color.

These are 5 of the small joys that make getting out with my camera this time of year so much fun.

I wasn't looking for two trees. But then I saw this sky.

The dark silhouettes, that mix of orange and blue, and those rain clouds hanging overhead. Everything just came together.

That's one of the things I love about being out with my camera. Sometimes, I find something I wasn't even looking for. The light changes, the colors come together, and all of a sudden, I see a photograph.

I can't always explain why a scene catches my eye. I just know when it does.

❤️ Looking back, God absolutely knew what He was doing when He brought Christina and I together.

One of my favorite things about us is how well we fit together. We laugh every day, can be completely ourselves, and just get each other.

We've built a photography business together, traveled together, done art fairs together, enjoyed quiet dinners at home, and even danced around the house together. And yes, we really do dance at home. 😂

I think that's what makes life together so special. It doesn't have to be anything extraordinary. It's having someone you enjoy doing life with, whether we're off on an adventure or just hanging out at home.

I'm pretty thankful God brought us together. I wouldn't want to do this life with anyone else.

I could spend hours on roads like this.

Winding Through Autumn: A Journey Along the Golden Path 🍂

There's just something about a road winding through the fall colors that gets me.

The golden leaves, the light coming through the trees, and the way the path keeps going around the bend. I love how a scene like this can make you want to slow down and see where it leads.

Fall is one of my favorite times to be out with my camera. The colors are beautiful, of course, but it's the light that really gets me. It can change the whole feeling of a place in just a few minutes.

Sometimes I think the best part is simply being out there, taking it all in, and seeing what catches my eye.
