The Senate recently introduced the Women’s Health Protection Act …. and act we must! We need Susan Collins, Maine’s senator who played a role in confirming Brett Kavanaugh as Supreme Court Justice and overturning Roe v Wade, to come to the front and place a vote that will not only protect Mainers, but all of our right to healthcare autonomy.

Here’s what we can do:

It’s funny to look back now and realize that every ending was just a beginning.

A decade ago I thought I’d be living a traditional suburban life with a couple of kids by now. If that’s still what I wanted, it would no doubt be beautiful. But the day I realized that I had options, that I didn’t have to do everything the traditional, or socially-acceptable, or make-your-parents-proud kind of way … that’s when my life became fully my own. It was ending of sorts - saying goodbye to the comfortable pre-written life script, and venturing out into uncharted territory.

I’m collecting travel stories, and smile lines like there’s no tomorrow (because one day there won’t be).
I’m realizing just how beautiful it is to remain open-hearted and curious about love (what a gift to love, and love again, and again).
I know now that family is what I make it, not a picket fence, church on Sunday and soccer games (each version of belonging and building a happy home is okay).
It’s freeing and fun to decide that I’m not quite sure what I believe when it comes to faith and spirituality, I’m just going to try to keep being a good person that spreads joy and kindness (paramount of the human existence).

No timeline. No final destination. No rush.
Just 100 summers - give or take - to live by the sun and love by the moon.
Fewer f***s to give the older I get.
Abandoning “non-chalance” because I want to feel deeply, think critically, care heedlessly, love wildly.

I know I have many more endings and beginnings in front of me and I welcome each sunset and sunrise.

5 years ago, Drew + Jay hired me to photograph their elopement in Denali National Park, Alaska. Do you see the moose hanging out in the background of their vows?!! Yeah. This was an unreal day 😍 If I received this booking inquiry today, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary - I’ve photographed over 200 unique couples in every setting imaginable. But back in 2021, I had never photographed a q***r couple.
I grew up very religious and was taught that being gay was a cardinal sin. The process of deconstructing those dehumanizing beliefs started in my early twenties when I had a lightbulb moment - if the point of living is loving and treating people with respect and kindness, then that’s all that matters. Not how they identify, not what religion they do or don’t claim, not what they look like … to be loved and to love is life’s greatest gift. And how could I even think of hating someone for embodying that 😭
Drew + Jay hired me even when my photography portfolio did not include examples of q***r couples. I’m forever thankful that they took that risk and asked me to capture one of the most memorable days of their life together 🥲
My photography style has continued to evolve since then; I would probably use different styles and techniques today and the photos would look a little different. But I would approach this day the same way I do for every single elopement, wedding or portrait session; how do I create photos that represent this couple and their love story that they will treasure forever? 🩵 Truly, it’s my greatest honor that I’ve now been to Drew + Jays home and seen some of these photos hanging on their wall years later. 😩
This weekend I get to attend a 5 year celebration party for these two and I feel a bit emotional about it haha. Forever thankful for these memories, the chance they took on me and all of the q***r couples that I’ve had the honor of knowing and photographing since! 🌈

OH and if you’ve ever debated eloping, you miiiiiiight happen to know of a girl who is well versed in National Park elopement photography etiquette *and* who also happens to be ordained 😏😏😏

Miriam was the first African woman to win a Grammy Award and she was a fierce, lifelong opponent of the apartheid regime, even starring in a 1959 anti-apartheid documentary “Come Back.” You should add her to your music rotation! 🇿🇦🫶🏼
