BTS shows the part you don’t see in the final gallery.

The nervous beginning. The laughing between poses. Me making tiny adjustments and probably demonstrating exactly what I want you to do.

And then you can actually see when it clicks.

They stop worrying about getting it right. Their body relaxes. They start having fun with it.

That shift is one of my favorite parts of a session, because you realize pretty quickly that you were never expected to walk in already knowing how to do this.

Everyone seems to think that maternity photos are allllllllllll about the bump. They can be, but they don't have to be.

Being pregnant is a *part* of you, a season in your life, not your entire identity and it shouldn't feel like it is. And even more so, your partner is always more than welcome to join you in celebrating this season in both of your lives.

When it comes to the images that are going to be going on your wall, you don't want to miss the chance to have at least one with your partner involved. Even if there is only the solo image, it is still always enjoyed to have to show the little one as they grow older.

Pictures can sometimes be all we end up left of a season in our life.

Take advantage of the opportunity while you have it. And trust that I will have you covered, including when it is gonna be the best time to have your session. That means no getting too far into the final fatigue phase that often hits most expecting mamas.

Even when I am balancing on a rock, I am still able to keep demonstrating exactly what I want you to do. I'm not standing there just telling you to "move your elbow up and over and drape your body over the log," and hoping you figure it out without my help.

I show you what I am wanting you to be doing as I explain what to do. And yes, I will climb back down and come to you and help if something doesn't make complete sense to you.

Knowing exactly what I am wanting to capture, and what you are wanting to see from this at the end, is what helps me keep things flowing smoothly so that you aren't left hoping that you didn't mess things up just because I made something way more confusing sounding.

Cause lets be real, communication isn't always easily understood, but visuals always help.

Privacy, access, terrain, comfort, light, and how much movement the location allows are just some of the factors I have to consider when I am looking for outdoor locations.

Sometimes we know we need to find something that offers complete privacy and seclusion, and other times we know we can get away with a semi- or fully public spot.

This session was taken along the paths that bring you to Titlow Beach, a hidden gem with views of the Narrows Bridge and the mountain ranges in the distance. The sun had been up for a couple hours, the beach was still empty except an occasional person who was looking for life in the tides as they went out.

We were able to create without concern of people, because I know this spot well (I actually come here a lot to just exist and journal, and its actually where I met one of my new Aunties as she was drumming and singing with a voice of a dove).

Sometimes we go deep, and sometimes we don't have to travel that far. Just know that no matter where we go, I have you covered for what we are going to want to do.

There is a reason I am so vocal during your session: that conversation helps you relax a lot more and think way less about what is going on in the images.

We talk about whatever fills the space when I am not in the middle of asking you to move an arm or turn your wrist another direction. You're not thinking about "what's next" and better yet (for me), you aren't thinking "does this look weird?" which often leaves you with this funny face that shows the confusion in the final images.

Nothing feels forced, and yes, there are times when I really do stop talking and that is because I am either a) in the moment or b) letting you be in the moment.

Questioning things is normal, but you won't be questioning what comes next and what do I need you to do.

It isn't as effortless as it looks to make fabric look like it belongs in the scene.

Not wanting to make it look "too perfect laid" and instead as if it was created just for that moment takes more than one attempt almost every time.

If there is some secret way to lay fabric that makes it always seem effortlessly laid.... I haven't figured it out yet 🤣 and honestly, it's the least of my concerns to try to figure out.

The wind is always a challenge as sometimes it is blowing at what feels like a perfectly tuned gust. And other times it bailed without warning or is blowing so hard that everything is just uncoordinated.

No matter what the weather is blowing or not blowing my way, I find a way to get it to lay where I want at least long enough to capture the images I want of you.

There is what I call a "prime time" for maternity sessions.

Its a period in which you are beautifully rounded, glowing, and your bump is bumping. Best yet - you haven't been hit with that third trimester fatigue that lands at the final month or two of pregnancy (for most).

What do I consider this prime time to be? 26-32 weeks.

That doesn't mean you can't book when you are 20 weeks or 38 weeks or anywhere in-between. I've done more than one session where we were scheduled the days BEFORE the due date when baby was about to pop at any moment. Of course that didn't stop us: they still looked marvelous and the final images are perfect, just like their newest bundle of joy.

There is another reason behind why I prefer these time periods: there is less risk of the session being canceled because you went into labor early. I have also had a few of those situations: mom ended up delivering the week of, or a few weeks before we were supposed to do their maternity session.

With enough of the trial and error behind us doing maternity sessions (off and on since 2017, but more consistently since 2025) to learn when the more ideal time to schedule your session is.
