When Blaire Long reached out for details on booking a headshot session, she specifically requested actor headshots -- which is music to any photographer's ears! I was SO excited when she came in that I actually shrieked. Actually, I just didn't know she was behind me -- and I'm really easily startled. Ask anyone.

We had a good laugh about it and with that, we were off to the races.

This session was such a perfect example of how color, lighting, choice of backdrop, posing, and expression can radically transform the look and feel of your headshots.

I can TOTALLY see this natural beauty on the big screen. But you don't have to be an aspiring actor to achieve this same vibe. You just have to book a session with the area's most dedicated and easily startled headshot photographer. That's me!

Every year, I look forward to photographing the Springfield 186 Educators of the Year, Administrators of the Year, and Rising Stars. It is one of my favorite projects because I get to meet the people making a real difference in students’ lives every day.

It is especially meaningful when I photograph a Rising Star who went to school in 186 with my own children -- or an educator or administrator who was part of their journey. It is wonderful to see them recognized for their efforts.

One thing that I am absolutely obsessive about is getting the eyes right in a headshot. They must be beautifully lit and sharp as a tack. A portrait with "soft" (blurry) or "dead" (no catchlights) eyes is a failure, in my humble opinion.

If eyes are indeed the window to the soul, then they should be clear, bright and full of light!
