Another common animal you’ll spot in Louisiana is, of course, snakes. I encountered quite a variety, both venomous and non-venomous. I couldn’t get photos of all of them, but I did manage to capture a few shots of Cottonmouths, a Plain-bellied Water Snake, and a Western Ratsnake.

I took a trip to Avery Island in Louisiana, which is not only home to the Tabasco factory but also to Bird City. Founded in 1895 to help save the snowy egret from extinction, Bird City became one of the first private wildlife refuges in the U.S. Today, it welcomes thousands of nesting birds each spring, and it’s truly a magnificent sight to see.

The Little Blue Heron is among the smallest herons in North America. Juveniles start out with bright white feathers, slowly gaining their signature blue plumage after their first year. Photographing these birds was an absolute delight, with their quirky personalities and stealthy hunting skills making it a real pleasure to capture them in their natural habitat.
