The Johnson family’s adoption journey began a few years ago, and within the last year, their family has grown by two beautiful little bundles of joy.

Selah and Jonah are two of the most precious little ones, each uniquely and wonderfully designed in God’s image.

Getting to capture this season for their family was such an honor. Their story is truly inspiring. It’s the kind of story that makes you pause, reflect, and remember just how incredible our God is. His plans, His timing, and the way He weaves stories together are far greater than anything we could ever imagine.

The Johnson family, thank you for allowing me to document a little piece of your beautiful story. What a gift these two are. 🤎

✨ A LENS WORTH KNOWING ✨

For my very first A Lens Worth Knowing, I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than Liz.

Liz believed in me during a season when I wasn’t sure I believed in myself.

When I was new to the area, still finding my place, and questioning whether I really belonged in this industry, she opened a door for me. She willingly invited me to be her second shooter and gave me an opportunity I will forever be grateful for.

And let me tell you… wedding days are A LOT.

The planning, the timelines, managing all the moving pieces, making sure every detail is taken care of before the day even begins, keeping things moving when the unexpected happens, and still making sure you capture all the moments that matter

it’s a BIG responsibility.

Getting to experience that alongside Liz taught me so much.

But more than the photography itself, I cherish her teachable spirit. Her willingness to share her knowledge, offer wisdom, and encourage someone else instead of keeping everything to herself is something I deeply admire.

Liz, thank you for believing in me when I needed someone to. Thank you for giving me a chance when you didn’t have to. And thank you for being the kind of photographer who makes room for others.

You are truly a lens worth knowing, and I hope you continue to bless others with your wisdom, kindness, and incredible talent the same way you have blessed me.

There is room for all of us. And I’m so thankful you helped me see that.

A LENS WORTH KNOWING 📷🤍

I’ve been thinking about starting something new.

One Friday a month, I want to take a moment to celebrate another photographer.

Not because I think they’re better than anyone else.
Not because I’m trying to compare one photographer to another.
And certainly not because there isn’t enough room for all of us.

Quite the opposite.

I’ve learned that there is so much room for all of us.

Photography can sometimes feel like a world of comparison. Who has the better work, the bigger following, the nicer camera, the fuller calendar, the more beautiful locations.

But behind every photographer is a person who started somewhere.

Someone who probably questioned themselves.
Someone who wondered if they belonged.
Someone who needed someone else to believe in them.

I know I have.

And some of the biggest encouragement I’ve received in this industry has come from photographers who could have viewed me as competition, but instead chose to cheer me on, share their knowledge, open doors, and make room for me.

So I want to do the same.

A Lens Worth Knowing is my little way of putting the spotlight on photographers I admire.
For their talent, yes, but also for their kindness, their creativity, their generosity, their growth, and the way they show up for others.

Because good work deserves to be seen.

And good people deserve to be celebrated.

So one Friday a month, I’ll be introducing you to a lens worth knowing. 🤍

I hope you’ll follow along, discover some incredible photographers, and maybe find a little more encouragement in this industry along the way.

There is room for all of us.

One thing I've learned as a small business owner is that it's easy to see the finished product, but not always the work that made it possible.

When someone invests in a photography session, they're not just paying for the time spent behind the camera. They're investing in the years it took to learn this craft, the countless hours spent editing, the planning before your session, the equipment that makes beautiful images possible, and the heart that's poured into every gallery.

People often ask why professional photography costs what it does, so here's a little perspective.

A session doesn't end when I put my camera away. There's communication before we ever meet, preparing props and setups, photographing your session, sorting through hundreds of images, carefully editing each one, delivering your gallery, and continuing to invest in the tools and education that help me give every family my best.

Then there are the business expenses that most people never think about. Taxes, insurance, software subscriptions, website fees, client galleries, equipment maintenance, backdrops, props, and everything else it takes to keep a business running well.

Let me use my $220 session as an example.

A family session can easily take 9 hours from inquiry to final schedule date. After setting aside roughly some for taxes, that $220 session leaves about $145....which is only around $19–22/hour before paying for any props, materials, equipment, software, insurance, marketing, website fees, storage, and all the other costs of running a business monthly.

And equipment? Cameras, lenses, computers, lighting, and hard drives don’t last forever. Repairs, replacements, and backups cost several thousands over time. Thankfully I have yet to have to replace anything, but I just upgraded my camera and lens so I could have my own equipment. Photography pricing isn’t just about “10 images.” It’s about the experience, creativity, preparation, years of learning, and everything that happens behind the scenes to create those images. It's not a quick way to make money.

Could I charge less? Maybe. But doing that wouldn't allow me to continue serving families with the quality and care they've come to expect.

I also understand that professional photography isn't in everyone's budget, and there's nothing wrong with that. We all have different priorities and seasons of life. My hope is simply that people recognize there's much more behind the price than a certain number of photos.

I've always believed that if you're going to do something, you should do it with excellence. That's the standard I hold myself to, and it's reflected in every session I take on.

The moments I photograph won't stay little forever. The cake gets eaten, the tiny outfits are packed away, and before you know it, they're asking for the car keys. Photos become one of the few things that grow more valuable with time.

To every family who has chosen me to tell a small part of your story, thank you. Supporting a small business means more than you'll ever know, and I'm grateful every day that I get to do work that I truly love. 🤍

I want your opinion! 🫶🏼

I’m tossing around the idea of offering morning sessions in the future instead of only evening/sunset sessions, and I’d love to hear what you think!

I know it can be hard waiting around all day for your session, especially when sunset isn’t until late. By the time photos roll around, little ones can be tired, hungry, or ready for bed, parents are exhausted from the day, and it can make planning your entire day around one session a little stressful.

Would you be interested in booking a morning session, or are you team sunset? 🌅☀️

Comment below and let me know! I’ll randomly choose one person to Venmo for a coffee as a little thank you for your feedback! 💖
