This year I was entrusted to create the interior for a restaurant opening Somssi by my childhood best friend Ahris Kim and its now open! You have to experience this place, meet this wonderful team and see all my thrift scores 😅 I made a commitment that *every* *single* thing* I brought in would be vintage, because I feel so much more at home around art and objects that pre date mass production. I believe that these things carry their own history and dignity with them and that they contribute to the big picture of good hospitality and what it means to feel welcomed and comfortable. My mom made the curtains from old crochet and lace tablecloths and fabrics she has collected for decades. The lighting was my biggest focus, since I think it’s a make or break when it comes to how a place feels. We have lots of little table lamps, the worlds best glass beaded bar light, and wall sconces that I made out of old French brioche pans. I’ve never done anything like this, but I’m so proud of the space we made! Mostly I’m so proud of my friend and the team she chose to make this exciting new restaurant in Greenwich village. ❤️ It’s a success already and it’s only been a month! No one works harder and no one deserves it more. Lots of love to my sisters Renee and Rachel for hosting me during my trips to the city to work on this project ❤️ and Ahris thank you for your trust and your friendship, and one of the most memorable experiences of my life ❤️❤️
