Tammy Billups and I have done several shoots together over the years, and I believe this is her fifth book. She carries such an open, loving energy—it’s easy to understand why her work centers on healing through our connection with pets. She truly is a gift.
At nearly every shoot, something magical happens: we end up photographing other people’s animals who wander into the moment—dogs, rabbits, and everything in between. It’s as if they’re drawn to her energy too.
“Your Animal ~ Your Soul Mirror offers a compassionate, illuminating perspective on the animal–human bond, one that recognizes our companions not simply as dependents or helpers, but as conscious mirrors participating in a shared healing journey. The authors work speaks directly to animal lovers who sense that their relationships with animals carry emotional and spiritual depth, yet may not fully understand how to work with that connection consciously.
What makes this book especially powerful is the clarity of its framework. The five emotional wound patterns, the Scared One, Needy One, Sensitive One, Protector, and Perfect One, give readers language for dynamics they often feel intuitively but cannot easily name. By showing how these patterns operate simultaneously within animals and their people, Tammy normalizes struggle without pathologizing it, and guilt or confusion are replaced with curiosity, empathy, and responsibility.
The concept of soul mirroring is both gentle and radical. Rather than positioning animals as problems to be fixed, Billups invites readers into a reciprocal process of awareness and healing, one that honors the intelligence, sensitivity, and emotional truth of animals as equal partners. The practical tools, charts, and real-life examples ground this philosophy in everyday life, making the work accessible even to readers who are new to emotional or spiritual healing practices.
This book will resonate deeply with devoted animal guardians, rescue and foster communities, animal communicators, holistic veterinarians, trauma-informed therapists, and spiritually inclined readers who recognize animals as teachers and healers.
Your Animal ~ Your Soul Mirror reminds us that healing is rarely solitary, and that love, when mirrored honestly, becomes one of our greatest teachers.” P.T.B.
