When the calling landed on my heart to begin photographing high schoolers, I hesitated at first. Over the last 25 years I have photographed everything: from famous weddings to river-soaked adventures, to my best friends’ births, but teenagers were something that never really came across my lens. I was flooded with doubts, “What if they won’t want my natural observational style of photography?” “What if they only want static, frozen poses like the girls all over social media?” And for a few months, I listened to those doubts. But God kept placing this calling on my heart and it wouldn’t go away. So I decided to give it a try. And immediately fell in love!
For my first year of having Senior Reps, I asked God to bring me the three girls that would be meant for me, and I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that these three young ladies are the best of the best of the best. Yes, they are stunningly beautiful, but they also have the most gorgeous hearts. They are kind, brilliant, rooted in their dreams and values, and all three have unshakeable integrity. I love these girls with my whole entire heart and know that capturing them over these next 12 months is going to be the biggest blessing.
Ella, Helen and Briley, thank you for trusting me with this chapter of your stories. I promise I won’t take a single second for granted.
Before this session, we prayed together, and I asked that God show me the images that won’t just mean something today, but 50 years from now when these girls are looking back at these precious years. That is what I’m tethered to with each and every click.
