Somebody's car horn started blaring in a Juneau, Alaska, driveway at 12:30 on a Monday morning. A neighbor looked out and saw a black bear sitting on it. The unlocked Subaru was the third car the bear had climbed into that night, and the only one where the door shut behind it.
Police woke up the owner, Michael Wilson, to get the keys, but the keys were no use. The bear had already ripped out the wiring, so the doors wouldn't unlock. Seats and door panels were wrecked. Angela Harkins, who saw the video of it, said the bear "actually puts his paw on the window at one point before the officer opens the door."
So the officers used a rope to pull the door open. The bear ran off unhurt. Wilson's insurance won't cover any of it, but he took it pretty well. "So I got to hand it to Subaru," he said. "They made a good car."
The family has some advice for the neighbors, too. "Lock your doors. Don't leave any food, no candy."
