Some of my favorite photos happen when kids are just allowed to be kids. Running through tall grass, picking wildflowers, chasing the last bit of sunlight, and keeping mom on her toes. The giggles, the chaos, the hand-holding, the hugs—these are the moments they’ll remember someday. It feels a little like bottling up childhood before it slips away.

There’s always a reason to wait.

Schedules don’t line up. Work gets busy. Kids grow faster than the calendar can keep up. And somehow, the photos get pushed to “someday.” But this mama didn’t wait. Even with dad away for the work season, she made sure her youngest got her turn. Because let’s be honest… the third baby, they don’t always get the same camera roll attention as the first (my younger sister has probably 5 childhood photos total 😂)

What started out as a technical difficulty that made the playing of Pomp and Circumstance as an entrance for graduates not possible, ended up being more meaningful as the local Lingít drumming group stepped up to welcome the class of 2026. It was more authentic and true to Sitka fashioned any way…new commencement tradition made?!
