Steve Zihlavsky (and Steve Zihlavsky - Artist) was a friend of mine.

A man of almost zero self-consciousness, he was just as apt to break into spontaneous, tune-adjacent song as he was to lean in close to tell an eyeroll-worthy dad joke. Steve’s generosity was boundless, his welcome engulfing, his joie de vivre a contagion.

I worked closely with Steve on a passion project featuring a traumatic history we shared—Outlier carries the indelible mark of this extraordinary human on every single one of the sixteen, decades-old doors he handpicked, physically-carried to me, and hand-wrought into the accordioned backdrops that would hold each survivor’s story for the brave fellow comrades who dared to live their traumatic experience publicly and out loud alongside Steve and me. We left shame on the other side of those doors, where it fu***ng belongs.

Long hours, together we swung hammers and drove bolts into the structure and bones of the most important story I’ve ever told, with words and camera and wood and sweat equity and a whole lotta heart. Steve taught me how to erect and strike Outlier all by myself, which was fitting, for some battles we fight alone, and that was never more true for me than it was with Outlier.

I find myself sitting in this dark silence tonight weeping for the loss of this good man who left us too soon. I’m so grateful I have his work on my walls in my home. To know him was to love him, and if I knew anything at all of Steve Zihlavsky it was certainly this: Steve was madly and eternally in love with his beloved bride, Tammy.

So here we have this momentous opportunity to honor and remember a man who was a loving friend to so very many of us by ensuring that we continue what he made his life’s sweetest commitment—caring for Tammy—now, in his absence.

How do you prepare flat, 19th-century archives for a modern 3D documentary environment? It all starts in Adobe Photoshop. 🖥️🎨

I handled the technical photo editing and clean-plate generation for a historical documentary tracking a historic college right here in Shreveport.

Because the end goal was a dynamic Parallax Effect, my job was to deconstruct static historical records into flawless, multilayered production assets. I collaborated closely with Joey Barto at Fairfield Studios, who took my completed Photoshop files into his motion pipeline.

When working with century-old archives, you can't just cut out a subject and leave a blank hole behind them. You have to rebuild reality.

My Photoshop Blueprint:

· Precise Masking & Pen Tool Selection: Meticulously isolated foreground subjects, intricate architecture, and historical elements into individual, dedicated layers.

· Non-Destructive Inpainting: Reconstructed the "hidden" environments behind those subjects using Content-Aware Fill, cloning, and digital painting to create seamless clean plates.

· Archival Restoration: Used advanced healing and curves adjustments to repair cracks, dust, and exposure imbalances inherent to physical archives.

By handing off structured, high-fidelity .PSD files with clean background fills, Joey was able to seamlessly animate cameras through the layers to build a sense of true cinematic depth.

Very proud to announce Bossier Parish Community College’s newest THEATRE major! 📣🎭🎉

J had a FANTASTIC morning getting registered for classes with our DEAR FRIEND Kathy ♥️ in Advising. She connected J with Logan in Recruitment who gave us the grand tour and made multiple strategic introductions 👋🏻 for J to Haley in Student Services, Dr. Crawford in the BPCC Theatre program,
Donovan in Financial Aid, Lisa in Marketing and Communication, Nancy at BPCC Foundation, Angie in BPCC Student Disability Services, and Ms Sandra in the Cavalier Care Center.

Each one of these OUTSTANDING 🤌🏻professionals warmly received J into their respective areas of expertise, ensuring a strong 💪🏻 start for his very first semester of higher 📚education.

I am THRILLED to know each member of his BPCC team and 💯 certain he is in excellent hands. He cannot wait to get started! 🏁🏃

This is the kind of place I wanna visit after a satisfying day on the water. It’s the perfect mix of southern and Cajun with a little bit of greasy spoon mixed in. I was looking for fried catfish tonight and stumbled up on their Wednesday Night Catfish Special! Lord, have mercy! I stepped inside a little timid because I was barely 29 minutes away from closing and I didn’t want to irritate the cook, but I asked the delightful lady at the counter and she gave me an enthusiastic all-clear for dine-in. I tipped her handsomely, filled up my cup with crushed ice and sweet tea, snagged a single-wrapped brownie from the counter for dessert, and settled in to wait for my food. While I’m waiting, I notice all the right condiments on the table, and then a beautiful steaming-hot plate of catfish, crinkle fries, hush puppies (I ordered extra), and coleslaw and house-made tartar sauce greeted me from a parchment-lined bistro tray. The fish was so perfectly seasoned, so tender and flaky, it nearly drew a tear to my eye. I finished as much of my meal as I could with a few minutes to spare before closing, but definitely had to take a box home. You can bet I will be laying my ears back on this tomorrow around lunchtime right after I hit it with the air fryer. I will be back! 🤌🏻
