Wedding Tip Wednesday:

Bring the cute shoes.

Just do not hike to the overlook in them.

Mountain sessions can mean uneven ground, wind, mud, and more walking than the photo makes it look like.

Wear comfortable shoes to get there, pack a layer if the weather is questionable, then switch once we are ready to shoot.

Your ankles will thank you.

Save this before your Smoky Mountains session.

Friendly reminder: “intimate” is not another word for “less important.”

The vows still matter.

Your family still matters.

The tiny look you give each other when it finally hits you still matters.

A smaller guest list can give you more room to actually spend the day with the people you invited.

The ceremony is over. You are officially married. Nobody has asked you where to stand next yet.

For a tiny moment, it is just the two of you walking into whatever comes next.

You already know how to be together.

I just need to put you in good light and keep you from overthinking it.

That is my favorite kind of engagement session. Enough direction to help you feel confident, but not so much that every photo feels staged.

If you are planning engagement photos in Knoxville or the Smoky Mountains, you do not need to practice first.

Just bring your person.

Nothing makes people feel less natural than being told, “Just act natural.”

You should not have to figure out what to do while a camera is pointed at you.

I will give you clear direction, fix the little things, then back off enough for the photo to feel like yours.

That mix is a big part of how I photograph weddings.

If you want direction without turning your wedding into one long photo shoot, we will probably work well together.

Wedding Tip Wednesday:

Please tell your photographer the pose you hate.

Seriously. I will not be offended.

If there is an angle, pose, or type of photo that has never felt like you, say it before the wedding.

I would much rather adjust than spend your portrait time creating something you already know you will not love.

Good photography should still look like you.

Save this for your photography call.

I do not turn a wedding photo black and white just because it looks artsy.

Sometimes color is part of the story. The flowers, the mountains, the suit, the light.

Other times, taking the color away makes the expression the first thing you notice.

That is the whole reason I use both.

If I tell you to walk during your engagement session, there is a good chance I am waiting for one of you to say something ridiculous.

Movement gives you something to do besides think about the camera.

Walk. Talk. Bump into each other. Make fun of each other a little.

That is usually how we get from “we are awkward” to photos that actually feel like you.

No modeling experience required.

The Smokies are already doing a lot here.

Your wedding backdrop does not always need another layer of decor on top of it.

A view like this can carry the ceremony and still keep the focus on the two of you.

If you are venue shopping in the Smoky Mountains, look past the pretty view too. Check the light, guest access, rain plan, and how far you will need to go for portraits.
