If your dad is a secret softie, give him his own first look before the ceremony. Just a few quiet minutes with him before everyone else sees you. He's going to remember it forever.

Real talk: almost everybody feels awkward for the first ten minutes.

Then we start chatting and you totally forget to worry about what your hands are doing.

That's one of my favorite reasons to do an engagement session before the wedding. By the time your big day rolls around, you already know how I work and the camera isn't scary anymore.

If you're nervous about photos, you're in good company.

Wedding Tip Wednesday:

If you're doing a first look, bring your letters or private vows with you.

It's one of the only quiet moments you'll get all day. Nobody's watching, and you can cry without worrying about your mascara in front of everyone you know.

These two read theirs by the lake at Stone Garden and I'm still not over it.

Plus you end up with photos of each other's faces while you're listening, which might be my favorite part.

Tennessee Venue Tuesday: Aspire in Clinton

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Aspire, and I'm already trying to figure out how to get back.

It sits on 370 acres near Knoxville, and when that evening light hits the fields with the mountains behind them, portraits pretty much take care of themselves.

Then everybody heads inside, the petals start flying, and it turns into a full blown party.

If you're touring venues around East Tennessee, put this one on your list.
