What’s more Alaska than clouds crawling over mountain peaks, bears, and seagulls? Spend enough time in Katmai and this is the scene you wake up to most days. The seagulls look cool in this shot, but those little turds are the bane of everyone’s existence blocking the action while bears eat fish.

Here fishy fishy! I could watch bears chasing after fish like this for hours and it would make a great screen saver. The music I added is Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals - Aquarium which is one of my favorites and fitting for the footage I think.

Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

Vasquez Rocks is one of the spots I constantly return to and study. The jagged rocks and stark landscape off an abundance of compositional possibilities. On this particular day the clouds sped past the rocks and I captured a 2 minute exposure as the sun set to complete the day.

The moment of the catch is a classic photograph to get when you are in Alaska to photo bears. It’s even more difficult to film it and keep everything in focus and smooth. The process has been teaching me a lot about filming fast moving sporadic objects that don’t land on a designated mark or do anything you might want them to do.
