To say I was excited to find this Great Horned Owl nest is an understatement. These little guys are in their branching phase, leaving the nest to walk on the branches nearby and flap their wings to strengthen them before they try to fly in the coming days.

This mama alligator definitely had her hands full with all these babies; we counted at least 25. These guys would have been born around August last year, so she's doing great keeping them alive! A typical alligator will have a clutch of around 35-40 eggs & on average 2-5 will survive to adulthood.

Hey y'all - as many of you may know, the Trump administration has recently changed the border wall maps to include a physical wall in the Big Bend region of Texas. If you have ever visited, you know that even the most staunchly anti-immigration folks would see no need to build a wall here; nature has already taken care of that with harsh, rugged, unforgiving terrain for hundreds of miles. The proposed wall would cut off access to the Rio Grande for both humans and animals as well as generally scar an incredibly beautiful and undeveloped area.

I have been lucky to spend a decent amount of time in the Big Bend of Texas & it holds a special place in my heart. For this reason, I am offering these 8x10 prints of different areas of Big Bend National Park & Big Bend Ranch State Park for $20 with all proceeds going to the fight against the wall in that area.

I have had fairly good luck spotting bobcats the last few months. Hopefully that trend continues because what beautiful creatures! This particular one had quite a long tail for a bobcat.

What a privilege to spend time photographing critically endangered whooping cranes.

These birds were hunted so their feathers could be turned into hats and by the 1940's, only about 20 remained. They are now estimated at about 700 in the wild and 150 in captivity. This particular group numbers around 550 and migrate between Wood Buffalo National Park in northern Alberta and Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.

Current proposals aim to weaken the Endangered Species Act, which provide protections to these incredible birds and has a 99% effectiveness rate. Please remember these guys and their success story if these proposals move forward.

With an estimated 80-100 ocelots in the U.S. it’s not surprising we didn’t see one, but that didn’t stop us from getting up at 4am on the weekends to try multiple times.
