The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, a gift from their sister city in Tajikistan is comprised of carved wood, colorful tiles and vibrant paintings. It was gifted to the city of Boulder in 1987 but didn’t open to the public until 1998 due to funding challenges. The Teahouse now stands as a cultural landmark showcasing the cultural history of Tajikistan and the spirit of the Boulder community.

Designed by the Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson, this installation at the Willis Tower in Chicago of “Atmospheric Wave Wall” in 2021 is made up of 1,963 curved metal tiles. According to the artist, the artwork was inspired by Chicago’s waterways, specifically the unpredictable weather stirring up Lake Michigan!
