I'd say they picked a pretty good night to go sailing! ⛵️ 🌕

One thing I have learned about photographing moonrises is that the darker it gets, the harder it becomes to capture the moon and an unlit foreground the way your eyes see it. The moon is so much brighter than the foreground, it becomes difficult to expose both in a single shot!

This photo was starting to push those limits! I had to selectively brighten the foreground in post-processing to try and recreate how the scene actually looked in person. Hopefully I did it justice!

One thing I love about photography is that it motivates me to get out and experience things I otherwise might not. One of those things is watching the moon rise!

Before I got into photographing moonrises, I had no idea how amazing it could be to watch the moon rise from the horizon. There's something about how big the moon appears near the horizon, and the way its colors change as it rises, that never ceases to amaze me!

The full hunter's moon rising over the Chesapeake Bay, 10-26-2026.

Sometimes I have a tendency to want to capture everything, and in the process, I end up missing moments I otherwise would have photographed!

Case in point: I was photographing the full moon the other day and couldn't quite make up my mind on whether I wanted to shoot video or still photos. I kept switching back and forth to get both, and in hindsight I missed some photo opportunities because of it.

This is actually a frame I pulled from one of my videos! It turned out pretty decent, but I really wish I caught this moment as a photograph instead!

I went to the Channel Islands a few weeks ago, and had the privilege of photographing the island foxes! 🦊 I could not believe how tiny they were! They also seemed completely unfazed by people, going about their business and barely even giving all the visitors a second thought!

These little foxes evolved from mainland grey foxes and are found nowhere else in the world outside of Califonia's Channel Islands!

Photographed some beautiful Coyotes during a recent trip to the Los Angeles area! Coyotes seem much easier to find on the West Coast than back home on the East Coast!

I was at the park when a little kid came up and asked what I was looking at.

“I’m not sure… some kind of blue dragonfly thing?” 😂

He took one look and immediately corrected me: “Oh, a damselfly!"

Thanks to that little kid at the park for teaching me something new! 😂

I've been loving these yellow fall-blooming flowers. I never really noticed them until this year! They sure do attract the bees! 🐝 💛
