Sometimes the best love stories aren’t the ones that happen quickly.

Huy knew early on that Aimee was someone special. But Aimee had goals she wanted to accomplish first. School, personal milestones, and a vision for the future she wasn’t willing to compromise on.

So Huy waited.

Not because it was easy, but because he believed she was worth waiting for.

Years later, watching them together on their wedding day, it was obvious that patience had become one of the foundations of their relationship. Their story is a reminder that love isn’t always about perfect timing. Sometimes it’s about trusting the process and staying the course.

Their wedding at The Ranch at Silver Creek was elegant, emotional, and incredibly fun. They wanted a mix of editorial portraits, timeless classics, and candid moments that reflected who they are together, and I think we found a beautiful balance of all three.

One thing I hear often is, “We’re not sure what to do in front of the camera.”

The truth is that almost everyone feels that way.

Having someone who can guide you through the different moments of the day while still giving you space to be yourselves makes a huge difference. The goal isn’t to create perfect poses. The goal is to create an environment where genuine moments can happen naturally.

Bought a Canon Super 8 camera to play around with, and I’m already falling in love with the process.

There’s something about film that makes everything feel like a memory before it even becomes one.

In a world where everything is digital, instant, and endlessly reproducible, film asks something different of us. It slows us down. It forces us to be intentional. Every frame matters. Every shot has purpose.

Sure, you can take digital footage and apply a film filter, but film is more than a look. It’s a mindset.

It’s learning how to work with light instead of relying on technology to fix everything later. It’s trusting the process. It’s being present enough to recognize a moment worth preserving.

I think that’s why Super 8 has become so popular for modern weddings. It captures something that’s difficult to replicate—a feeling. Not just what the day looked like, but what it felt like.

Digital definitely has its place. It’s fast, efficient, sharp, and incredibly powerful. But film has a way of making us pause. It reminds us that the moments we cherish most are often imperfect, temporary, and impossible to recreate.

Lately I’ve also been experimenting with 35mm Kodak Portra on a Canon film camera I borrowed from . Working with different mediums has challenged me to think less about perfection and more about storytelling.

At the end of the day, my goal has never been to simply document moments.

I want people to remember.

I want them to feel something.

And sometimes the most powerful stories are told one frame at a time.

I think somewhere along the way, social media convinced us that a wedding has to be massive, extravagant, and endlessly documented in order to be meaningful.

But truthfully, a wedding was never meant to be a performance for the internet.

You do not need to spend beyond your means or put yourself into debt just to impress other people, satisfy family expectations, or create something that looks good on Instagram. Comparison has a way of making people feel like their love story is somehow “less than” if it does not look like everyone else’s highlight reel.

The wedding is about a union between two people before God. That is the heart of it.

Sometimes we get so caught up trying to recreate what we see online that we forget why we are even doing this in the first place. Bigger does not automatically mean more meaningful. More expensive does not automatically mean more beautiful. More content does not automatically mean more love.

You do not need ten wedding videos, a ten day destination celebration, or a production designed for strangers on the internet. What people are truly longing for is not more content. They are longing for presence, honesty, connection, and experiences that actually feel real.

There is nothing wrong with having a big wedding if that genuinely reflects who you are. But there is also nothing wrong with keeping things simple, intimate, and within your means. One is not more valid than the other.

The pressure to constantly outdo one another is exhausting. We do not need to keep chasing a “larger than life” version of love just because social media rewards spectacle.

If you are getting married, let it reflect your values. Let it reflect your season of life. Let it reflect what matters most to the two of you.

It does not need to be big to be special.

It just needs to feel like you.

One day, the places will change.
The gardens will bloom for someone else.
The little hands we once held so tightly will grow bigger.
The people beside us will grow older, and life will slowly move into a different season.

Time moves quietly like that.
So slowly we barely notice it while we’re living inside it, yet somehow fast enough to leave us longing for moments we didn’t realize were already slipping away.
The bedtime routines, the familiar laughter echoing through the house, the way someone looked at us across a room without needing to say a word — all of it becomes part of a chapter that eventually closes and another one will open.

But photographs have a way of holding on.

They remember the way your daughter reached for your hand without hesitation.
The way you and your sister laughed together in the sunlight.
The quiet embrace between two people deeply in love.
The soft golden evenings that felt ordinary at the time, but would later become the moments we miss the most.

Sometimes we think we’re just taking pictures.
But really, we’re capturing the feeling of a life that is constantly changing.

A photograph becomes proof that we were here together.
That there was softness in the chaos, beauty in the ordinary, and love woven through even the smallest moments.
It captures not only how life looked, but how it felt to be inside of it.

And years from now, when so much looks different, these photographs will remain.
Little reminders that this moment mattered.
That this love existed.
That these were the days we’ll one day wish we could step back into again.

There’s something about San Francisco City Hall that just slows everything down.

It’s simple, but it never feels small. The light, the architecture, the space… it all carries the moment for you. You don’t need to overcomplicate anything for it to feel meaningful.

Even for couples getting married elsewhere, it’s one of the best places for portraits. Everything is clean, timeless, and within reach. You can create a full story without rushing from location to location.

But what really makes the difference is knowing how to move through it.

City Hall isn’t difficult, but it does require intention. Timing, lighting, and flow matter more than people think. With the right guidance, everything just falls into place the way it should.

There’s something surreal about returning to a place that once felt so ordinary, and seeing it through a completely different lens. I remember coming here as a kid with my parents while they handled paperwork with the city of San Rafael. It felt quiet, structured, almost intimidating. Just a place you moved through, not a place you experienced.

And now here I am, years later, creating in the same space. What once felt routine now feels inspiring. The light, the lines, the architecture all became part of the story we were telling. It’s a reminder that beauty isn’t always about the location, it’s about how you see it.

The day itself was gently overcast with a light drizzle, unexpected for this time of year, but it gave everything a softness that made the moments feel even more intimate. The couple started off a little nervous, which is so normal, but with a bit of guidance and space to just be themselves, everything shifted. By the end, they were relaxed, connected, and fully present with each other.

Seeing them in traditional Filipino wedding attire in this modern, understated setting was such a beautiful contrast. It felt timeless and personal all at once.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. Taking a place from my past and turning it into something meaningful for someone else’s story.
